Campos Racing arrived at the 2025 F2 season finale at Yas Marina sitting third in the Teams’ Championship on 239 points. While the team entered the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend mathematically outside the title fight, their prospects improved significantly following a highly successful Sprint Race.
While speaking to the media after the race, Team Principal Adrián Campos Jr was full of praise for his drivers, Arvid Lindblad and Nikola Tsolov, after Lindblad claimed victory from pole position while Tsolov achieved his maiden F2 podium.
Double podium finish
After qualifying ninth and tenth respectively, Lindblad and Tsolov were set to line up on the front row for the Sprint Race thanks to the reverse-grid format. However, a three-place grid penalty for Tsolov dropped the Bulgarian driver to fifth on the grid.
Despite the setback, Tsolov made a strong launch at lights out and maintained a consistent race pace, allowing him to fight his way onto the podium and secure his first Formula 2 top-three finish with Campos Racing.
Lindblad, meanwhile, converted pole position into victory with a composed drive. The British driver led from start to finish, holding off sustained pressure from AIX Racing’s Joshua Duerksen across all 23 laps to claim his third win of the 2025 F2 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Reflecting on the Sprint Race, Campos Jr described the outcome as a positive result for the team. He highlighted the underlying pace of both cars and lamented the penalty that denied Campos Racing a potential second one-two finish of the season.
“It has been a very positive day. We knew we had the pace to do as we did. It is a shame about Nikola’s penalty because I think he could have fought for second place, at least.”
“We could have done a second P1 and P2 of the season, but still, we had a good start with both cars, and we took advantage of it.”
Campos Jr proud of Tsolov’s quick adjustment to F2
Campos Jr was particularly complimentary of Nikola Tsolov as he reflected on the Bulgarian’s progress across the 2025 season, which has been underlined by his performance so far in Abu Dhabi.
Tsolov made his Formula 2 debut with Campos Racing after replacing Pepe Martí for the final two rounds of the season. The young driver impressed immediately at the Qatar Grand Prix, finishing both the Sprint and Feature Races inside the points. Campos Jr spoke proudly of Tsolov’s development and adaptability.
“Nikola is always learning and improving. He is the only one of the drivers that came for the last two rounds that is up there fighting with the big guys. Very happy for him, and very proud of the year that he is doing.”
Campos Jr praises “impressive” Lindblad
Arvid Lindblad, meanwhile, is set to graduate to Formula 1 in 2026, joining Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson. Campos Jr admitted that the British driver continues to impress him with his approach to race weekends and his consistently strong performances — particularly remarkable given that 2025 marks Lindblad’s rookie season in F2.
“I am very surprised about Arvid. The very limited experience he has, and he is still able to put the car up front. Every time that nothing strange happens, or he has the luck that he needs to be up there, it’s impressive, it’s very impressive.”
Campos Jr also took the opportunity to congratulate Lindblad on securing victory in his final F2 race weekend, while wishing him success as he prepares to take the next step in his career.
“He is certainly a guy that has things extremely clear in his mind, he knows what he wants. It’s always very nice to have a win in the last race weekend of the year, and the last race weekend with him, and I am sure that he has a very amazing future ahead.”
Eyes on the Feature Race finale
Attention now turns to the final Feature Race of the 2025 Formula 2 season at Yas Marina. Lindblad will start from ninth on the grid, while Tsolov lines up in 12th.
Campos Racing heads into the Feature Race third in the Constructors’ Championship on 256 points, just ten points behind second place, with one final opportunity to strengthen their championship position before the season concludes.
“Obviously we are looking more at the Standings now than at the beginning of the weekend, because for P2, it’s around 10 points”
Campos Jr is aiming to replicate the team’s Formula 3 success earlier this year by mounting a late charge for the 2025 Formula 2 title. With one car starting inside the points and the other just outside in P12, he believes the team remains in contention. He drew parallels with the F3 finale in Monza, where Campos Racing clinched the 2025 F3 Teams’ Championship against the odds.
“So it’s possible because they have one car in the points, we have one car in the points, and Nikola is closer than Browning, so anything can happen. It’s not easy but we will fight for it. It was not easy also in Monza with F3, but we managed to achieve it.”
“Also the Teams’ title is still possible because there are more points in play than the difference with Invicta right now. They are starting in front, we are starting in the mid pack, but we will give our best to end the season as high as possible.”
