Eighteen-year-old Yevan David is set to compete in the 2026 FR Oceania Trophy with Kiwi Motorsport. The Sri Lankan driver will be the first from his country to take part in New Zealand’s prestigious single-seater championship, which enters its 21st season in 2026. This opportunity comes as David continues to build his motorsport career, with the FR Oceania Trophy serving as preparation for his debut in the FIA F3 Championship later in the year with AIX Racing.

From karting to single-seaters

David’s motorsport journey began at the age of seven in karting, where he raced in Singapore and later in Malaysia and Macau. He went on to achieve success in the junior karting ranks, including winning the IAME Asia Series and the X30 Asia Cup in 2017 and 2018. David transitioned to single-seater racing in 2024, competing in the Formula 4 UAE Championship and the F4 Spanish Championship. In the same year, he represented Sri Lanka at the FIA Motorsport Games, where he secured pole position for the F4 race.

In 2025, David moved to the Euroformula Open Championship, racing for Team Motopark. He finished the season as vice-champion, demonstrating strong performances throughout the year. Additionally, he made his debut in the GB3 Championship at Silverstone, earning points across several races. These results solidified his position as one of the promising drivers in junior formula racing.

Now, David will focus on the 2026 FR Oceania Trophy, where he will race for Kiwi Motorsport in a series that serves as a valuable training ground for young drivers. The championship begins in January 2026 and will conclude in February with the 70th New Zealand Grand Prix at Highlands Motorsport Park. David sees this as a valuable opportunity to develop his skills further in an international environment.

David focused on “learning as much as possible”

“I’m very excited to be racing in this championship,” David commented. “It’s going to be such a new experience and there will be many new things to learn. But I’m also excited to compete, to work with a new team and to achieve as much as possible.”

David is focused on continuous improvement, both on and off the track. “Learning as much as possible will mean trying all the time to be better than the day before. I will focus on making improvements on myself, improvements to how I work with the team and achieving the maximum possible. Whether that’s the championship or not doesn’t really concern me, as long as we fulfil everything within our control.”

The 2026 FR Oceania Trophy is an important step in David’s career, setting the stage for his entry into the FIA F3 Championship later in the year. As he prepares for this new challenge, David remains focused on growth and development in his racing journey.
