Roman Bilinski will take the next major step in his single-seater career in 2026, moving up to FIA Formula 2 with DAMS Lucas Oil as he continues his climb towards the pinnacle of motorsport.
The Polish driver advances to FIA Formula 3 following a strong 2025 campaign, where he finished 11th in the Championship standings. Bilinski claimed three podium finishes across the season, highlighted by a standout victory in the Monza Sprint Race, underlining both his consistency and race-winning potential.
Speaking about his promotion to Formula 2, Bilinski could not hide his excitement at the opportunity ahead.
“It’s absolutely fantastic,” said Bilinski on stepping up to F2. “DAMS have proven themselves to be a very strong team over the years, and also to be teammates with Dino will be great. There will be lots to learn, I am sure.”
“This is a good thing for myself, and I am just really excited to get going. It’s a fantastic feeling being in Formula 2, suddenly you are one stage closer to the dream and I just want to get going and get to Melbourne.”
Bilinski notes technical differences between F2 and F3
Bilinski will partner with Dino Beganovic at DAMS in their F2 team for 2026, forming an ambitious driver pairing for the French outfit. After already spending time integrating into the team environment, the 21-year-old has spoken positively about his early experiences.
“It’s been great,” said Bilinski on his first few weeks working with DAMS. “It already feels like a family, which is fantastic. I am still learning, and even though I was not driving in the last couple of weeks, I was still able to learn.”
“Kush [Maini] and Jak [Crawford], who were in the team, were third-year drivers, so both had an extreme amount of experience in the Championship. So to listen to them in debriefs was extremely important for me.”
Bilinski is also preparing for the technical and sporting challenges that come with the step up to F2, acknowledging the significant differences compared to F3 machinery and race weekends.
“Of course, the speed in the straights is much faster, and we have now got carbon brakes,” he explained. “We also have different tyre compounds in the weekend, which is something I have to get used to as well, and some different tracks. So for sure there will be some differences, but this is what motorsport is about.”
Rookie season in F2
While expectations are naturally high, Bilinski is approaching his rookie season with a grounded mindset, focused on learning and maximising every opportunity.
“Being a racing driver, you want to win,” he said. “You want to win every race, every championship and everything like this. But being my rookie season, I want to do the best job I can do, keep learning, and we will see what happens.”
With a proven junior record behind him and a highly respected team around him, Bilinski’s move to DAMS Lucas Oils’ F2 team in 2026 represents another significant milestone as he edges closer to his ultimate goal.
