DAMS Lucas Oil’s Dino Beganovic claimed pole position in the disrupted 2026 F2 Australian GP Qualifying session, beating Martinius Stenshorne and Alex Dunne, who took P2 and P3 respectively.
Qualifying commenced with a busy track and rising temperatures. MP Motorsport’s Gabriele Minì initially set a 1:32.199, but Dino Beganovic quickly leapfrogged him with a 1:29.953, followed closely by Invicta Racing duo Joshua Dürksen and Rafael Câmara. Subsequently, Rodin Motorsport’s Martinius Stenshorne climbed to the top with a 1:29.748, only for Tsolov to take the lead with a 1:29.381.
The session faced its first Red Flag when PREMA Racing’s Mari Boya crashed at Turn 12. After the track cleared, drivers returned to the circuit, while the MP Motorsport duo stayed in the pits. With less than 17 minutes remaining, Noel León set a fast middle sector but aborted his lap, and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak followed suit.
Another setback struck Minì as he suffered a second loss of power, forcing him to stop at the side of the track. Race Control again showed the Red Flag. Consequently, Tsolov retained a three-tenths advantage over Stenshorne heading into the final shootout.
In the closing two minutes, drivers pushed for one last lap. Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne surged from 15th to P1 with a 1:29.039, but Beganovic delivered an even more impressive lap, setting a purple first and final sector to claim pole with a 1:28.695.
