What happened during the Sprint Race?

Pepe Martí secured his second win of the season in a chaotic and action-packed F2 Sprint Race at the Austrian GP. The race was immediately halted on the opening lap after a major crash at Turn 3 involving Meguetounif, Lindblad, and Browning, with Meguetounif’s car flipping after a failed overtake.

Thankfully, all three drivers walked away unharmed. Once racing resumed under timed conditions, pole-sitter John Bennett dropped down the order as Joshua Duerksen took control, while Martí quickly climbed from fifth to second.

As the race developed, Martí gradually closed the gap to Duerksen, eventually making a bold move at Turn 3 on Lap 18 to take the lead. He withstood pressure from both Duerksen and Staněk, but managed to pull away in the closing laps, crossing the line with a commanding 2.7-second advantage. The top ten saw fierce battles throughout, with Verschoor making a crucial pass on Bennett for fifth and keeping himself in the top three of the Championship standings.

Martí also set the fastest lap of the race, underlining his pace and control in tricky conditions. Behind him, Minì impressed with a bold move on Bennett for sixth, while Staněk and Cordeel battled fiercely for podium contention. The field stayed tightly bunched for much of the race, showcasing intense, strategic racing.
