Jak Crawford’s thrilling Feature Race victory in at the Azerbaijan GP trimmed Leonardo Fornaroli’s championship advantage to 19 points, intensifying the fight for the 2025 F2 title.

After a thrilling F2 Azerbaijan GP Feature Race, Crawford held his nerve to take a dramatic victory on the streets of Baku, edging Joshua Dürksen by just two tenths of a second. The American’s win keeps him firmly in the 2025 Formula 2 title hunt, as championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli endured a costly penalty and rival Luke Browning had a nightmare race.

Fornaroli in trouble

The F2 Azerbaijan GP Feature Race began in classic Baku chaos. Fornaroli launched past Crawford into Turn 1, with Gabriele Minì also slipping through. Rookie Martinius Stenshorne impressed early on, climbing to fifth, but his dream start ended in heartbreak when he crashed into the barriers on Lap 5, triggering a Safety Car.

The pit stop shuffle proved decisive. Fornaroli lost crucial ground when held up in the pit lane, dropping behind Minì and Crawford. At the restart, Browning’s hopes of closing the title gap evaporated as he ran off at Turn 4 and fell to the back, never recovering. Moments later, Fornaroli tangled with Alex Dunne, earning a 10-second penalty that would define his race.

Dürksen charges, Crawford resists

As the field settled, Crawford reclaimed the lead from Minì and looked in control. But Joshua Dürksen wasn’t done — the Paraguayan carved through the pack, overtaking Minì and setting his sights on Crawford. Lap by lap, he closed the gap, entering DRS range with just a few laps to go.

The final two laps of the F2 Azerbaijan GP Feature Race were breathtaking. Dürksen launched multiple attacks, diving to the outside into Turn 1, but Crawford defended with supreme composure. At the flag, the DAMS Lucas Oil driver held on by just 0.216 seconds.

Podium shake-up, championship tension

Behind them, Dino Beganovic kept his momentum from Saturday, inheriting third place after Fornaroli’s penalty dropped the Italian to fifth. Minì salvaged fourth as his pace faded late on. Pepe Martí, Arvid Lindblad, and Rafael Villagómez secured strong points finishes, while Browning could only limp home a lapped 19th.

The F2 Azerbaijan GP Feature Race delivered everything Baku is known for: chaos, heartbreak, and stunning drama. Crawford’s third Feature Race win adds another twist to the 2025 F2 title fight — with Fornaroli penalised and Browning faltering, the championship remains wide open heading into the next round. Martí and Shields got penalised after the F2 Feature Race of the Azerbaijan GP, Martí dropped from P6 to 11th, Shields finished the race in 18th, remaining in his original position after the penalty.
