The FIA F3 Feature Race in Spielberg at the 2025 Austrian GP delivered not only on-track drama but also significant post-race developments that transformed the championship picture. While Nikola Tsolov crossed the finish line first, a disqualification saw his victory nullified, reshuffling the top ten and the title race.
Tsolov and Van Hoepen disqualified
Nikola Tsolov led from lights out and dominated the race on track, crossing the line comfortably ahead of his rivals. However, a post-race technical inspection revealed that the plank on his car was below the minimum thickness outlined in the regulations. As a result, he was disqualified for breaching Article 3.2.2 of the Technical Regulations.
Further down the order, Laurens van Hoepen—originally ninth—was also excluded after his ART Grand Prix car was found to have tyre pressures below the 13.0 PSI minimum. His disqualification, in breach of Article 10.4.3, further reshuffled the points-paying positions. All drivers who finished behind each disqualified car were promoted one place in the final classification.
Major championship shifts
The disqualifications had immediate and substantial effects on the 2025 F3 Drivers’ Championship. Rafael Câmara, who finished fifth after early contact and a challenging race, extended his lead to 117 points. His consistent scoring across both races in Austria gave him breathing room at the top of the standings.
Tim Tramnitz emerged as the biggest gainer from the revised results. Initially third on the road, he was promoted to second, allowing him to leapfrog Tsolov in the standings. Tramnitz now holds 93 points, just 24 behind Câmara.
Tsolov, who entered the weekend as Câmara’s closest rival, dropped to third overall with 89 points. The disqualification was a major setback for the ART Grand Prix driver, who had looked poised to close the gap significantly.
Midfield reshuffle and new scorers
Martinius Stenshorne inherited the F3 Feature Race win at the 2025 Austrian GP and climbed to fourth in the standings with 67 points. Nikolas Strømsted and Mari Boya also capitalised, moving to fifth and sixth in the standings with 62 and 58 points respectively.
Further back, Ugo Ugochukwu’s promotion to fourth gave him crucial points, raising his total to 16. Meanwhile, Benavides scored his first points of the season after being promoted to ninth, now sitting 27th overall.
With four rounds remaining, the 2025 F3 title fight remains wide open. Câmara holds a healthy lead, but Tramnitz and Tsolov remain within striking distance. After a dramatic weekend in Spielberg, every point will matter as the championship heads to Silverstone.
