FP2 for round 15 of the 2026 F1 season has been completed at the Azerbaijan GP in Baku, view the full session results here.
In FP1 earlier on Thursday, George Russell topped the times by 0.4s from four-time World Champion and defending race winner Max Verstappen. The Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton followed the Dutchman very closely as they used medium tyres to post their fastest times in the opening session.
Despite stopping before the halfway point with a hydraulic issue, championship leader Kimi Antonelli ended up 5th quickest; he had been P1 before pulling off. Piastri and Norris were P6 and P14 as McLaren had some issues during the first hour of the weekend.
Back in his Racing Bulls car, Liam Lawson led the midfield as teammate Arvid Lindblad was close behind in 8th. Esteban Ocon headed the Audi duo, with the German manufacturer brining updates to Baku. Williams looked much more competitive thanks to significant upgrades too. Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon were just hundredths behind the German.
It was not perfection for either team as the Spaniard had a brake fire, while car #27 stopped on track late in the session.
Alpine had a tricky start as Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto could only manage P16 and P18. Sergio Pérez did a very impressive lap to split the pair as Cadillac and Aston Martin are set to be the slowest teams once more this weekend.
Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar, confirmed at Red Bull for 2027 yesterday, was down in P20. The French driver only completed nine laps as he complained about pulling on the brakes over team radio.
