George Russell took pole position for Mercedes as the Brit dominated Q3, taking pole by over 0.8s. Behind him, it was close. Charles Leclerc managed to get himself on the front row, followed by Oscar Piastri and Isack Hadjar.
Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz and Franco Colapinto completee the top 10. The Dutchman was down on power throughout qualifying, while the Spaniard in the Williams did a cracking lap to get into the final segment.
The big story of qualifying was Kimi Antonelli crashing out. During Q1, the championship leader turned into Turn 1 but clipped the inside wall with his left front, breaking the suspension. He eventually parked it on an escape road outside of Turn 7. While his time early in the session was enough to get through, P16 was guaranteed as he could not take part in Q2.
Racing Bulls had their toughest qualifying since Miami as neither driver ever looked like advancing as the car lacked pace. Liam Lawson did a very good lap to be P12, while Arvid Lindblad was 15th. Haas duo Bearman (11th) and Ocon (14th) were one spot ahead of the Kiwi and Brit respectively.
Audi had a very disappointing session as they joined the Aston Martins and Cadillacs in getting knocked out in Q1. Fernando Alonso and Sergio Pérez were considerably faster than their teammates.
