Max Verstappen topped the timing sheets in FP1 at the 2026 F1 Belgian GP, setting the pace during Friday’s opening practice session at Spa-Francorchamps. See the full results below.
Jak Crawford took over Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin for the session as he fulfilled his rookie practice duties.
Lando Norris was the final driver to head out on track. The 2025 F1 World Champion will start the Belgian Grand Prix with a 10-place grid penalty after McLaren exceeded its power unit allocation for the 2026 season.
However, Norris is not the only driver taking a penalty this weekend. Isack Hadjar will start from the back of the grid after exceeding his allocation for the Internal Combustion Engine, Turbocharger and Exhaust.
The Red Bull driver has received a 10-place grid penalty for the ICE infringement, along with an additional five-place penalty for each of the Turbocharger and Exhaust infringements. As his total penalty exceeds 15 grid places, Hadjar will start from the back of the field.
Lance Stroll will also take a 10-place grid penalty after exceeding his allocation for the MGU-K.
Williams used the session to compare its new front wing, with the team bringing just one new specification to Spa-Francorchamps.
When the soft tyres made their appearance halfway through the session, the battle for the top spot became a fight between the Red Bulls and Ferrari.
At the conclusion of the FP1 session, Verstappen topped the timings, with Hamilton in P2 and Leclerc in P3.
