FP1 at the 2026 F1 Canadian GP has been completed ahead of Sprint Qualifying later in the day, view the full results here.
Ahead of the weekend starting, Kimi Antonelli was 20 points clear of George Russell in the Drivers’ Championship after taking three consecutive Grand Prix victories. The Brit won in Montréal last year, as the Italian driver bagged his first podium in the sport that weekend also.
Leclerc, Norris, Hamilton and Piastri went into the weekend covered by 16 points in the fight for P3 in the standings at present. The defending World Champion ended Mercedes’ 100% record by taking out the Sprint in Miami.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull made a significant step forward in Miami, moving up to P7 and P4 in the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships respectively. He finished 5th in both the Sprint and Grand Prix.
Behind the top four, Franco Colapinto secured his best Grand Prix result with a P7. It moved them five points clear of Haas in the midfield battle for 5th in the standings. Thanks to plenty of upgrades and a double points finish, Williams made a step forward and jumped Audi into 8th.
It was a very early end to FP1 for Liam Lawson as his car broke down in first sector. He was in P4 at the time.
Red flag number two appeared as Alex Albon crashed at turn 7. Unfortunately, he hit an animal that led to it happening.
A third red flag came inside the last few minutes as Esteban Ocon crashed. He lost the car on traction out of turn 4 and clipped the wall on the left hand side.
