In Sprint Qualifying on Friday, Lewis Hamilton beat Kimi Antonelli to top spot by 0.011s. Max Verstappen was 0.3s back but led a very close fight for 3rd. Just over a tenth covered the Dutchman, Leclerc, Russell, Norris, Piastri and Hadjar. Rounding out the top 10 were the impressive Racing Bulls, with Lawson quicker than Lindblad once more.
There was a late change to the grid as Alex Albon started from pit lane due to set-up changes on his FW48 machine. The Haas, Cadillac and Aston Martin drivers all moved up a spot.
Regarding the championship situation, the Italian driver held a 40-point coming into the Sprint over his British teammate. The seven-time World Champion was a further six points back. Piastri, Norris, Leclerc and Verstappen were set to resume an intriguing battle for 4th in the standings thanks to their grid positions.
