Alex O’Grady claimed his second 2026 GB4 Championship victory of the Snetterton weekend after withstanding race-long pressure from title rival Fred Green in Race 2.
The KMR Sport driver started from pole and retained the lead through an early interruption before keeping Green behind throughout the remainder of the race. O’Grady eventually crossed the line just 0.482s clear, while Fortec Motorsports’ Thomas Ingram Hill completed the podium.
The victory further strengthened O’Grady’s championship position, extending his advantage over Green to 66 points ahead of the final race of the weekend.
O’Grady leads after delayed start
The Race 2 grid came from each driver’s second-fastest Qualifying lap, placing O’Grady on pole alongside Green. Ingram Hill and Race 1 podium finisher Dayton Coulthard shared the second row, while Conor Grant and Enzo Hallman started fifth and sixth.
The original start faced a delay after two drivers spun on the formation lap, reducing the race duration. Once proceedings finally got underway, O’Grady launched well from pole and immediately retained the lead.
Green made a slower getaway and came under pressure from Ingram Hill and Coulthard through the opening corners. However, the Elite Motorsport driver held second and avoided losing further ground after his Race 1 retirement had already dealt a significant blow to his championship challenge.
Watkins incident brings early interruption
O’Grady’s strong start quickly became irrelevant when an incident further down the order interrupted proceedings on the opening lap.
KMR Sport teammate Lily-May Watkins came under attack from Michael Koh at Wilson before being pitched into the air. Her car came to rest in the run-off area, bringing the race under neutralised conditions and ending her involvement without completing a lap.
O’Grady therefore lost the advantage he had started to establish. However, when racing resumed at the end of Lap 2, the championship leader produced another strong getaway and immediately opened a gap of around half a second over Green.
Green keeps pressure on O’Grady
That half-second advantage proved to be about as comfortable as O’Grady would get. Green stayed close throughout the race and repeatedly put himself within striking distance of the KMR Sport driver.
On Lap 3, Green used the slipstream to close towards the Brundle and Nelson complex but could not get far enough alongside to attempt a move. The continued pressure then forced O’Grady into a small error at Wilson on the following lap, where he locked a brake but retained control and the lead.
Green remained within range as the laps ticked away but never found a clear opportunity to complete a pass. O’Grady continued absorbing the pressure and avoided the mistake his rival needed.
O’Grady holds on for second Snetterton win
O’Grady eventually crossed the line only 0.482s ahead of Green, completing a perfect two wins from the first two races at Snetterton.
Green’s second place represented an important recovery after his Race 1 retirement while leading. However, O’Grady’s victory meant the Elite driver still lost further ground in the championship despite returning to the podium.
Ingram Hill remained close to the leading pair and finished just 1.907s behind O’Grady. Third place gave the Fortec driver his third podium from the past four races and continued his recent run of strong form.
Coulthard followed 2.088s behind Ingram Hill in fourth, while Grant recovered strongly from his difficult Race 1 to complete the top five for Douglas Motorsport.
Byrne survives intense fight for sixth
One of the closest battles developed over sixth, where Torrin Byrne faced sustained pressure from Pace Performance teammate John O’Donnell and Hillspeed’s Hallman.
Byrne, who had charged from fifth to second in Race 1, ultimately held the position despite the trio racing closely throughout the latter stages. O’Donnell and Byrne went wheel-to-wheel on multiple occasions, while Hallman remained directly involved and looked for opportunities to capitalise.
O’Donnell eventually secured seventh, continuing his strongest GB4 weekend to date. Hallman crossed the line only 0.125s behind him in eighth, while Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso finished another 0.164s back in ninth.
Connor Willis completed the top 10, with Josh McLean, Franciszek Cegielski, Matan Achituv and Koh all remaining part of the tightly packed train behind the battle for sixth.
O’Grady takes 66-point lead into Race 3
Two victories from the opening two Snetterton races have transformed O’Grady’s championship position.
He arrived at the weekend holding a 25-point advantage over Green before his rival’s Race 1 retirement allowed that margin to increase to 60. By holding Green behind in Race 2, O’Grady added another six points to his cushion and now leads by 66 heading into the final contest.
Green at least returned to the podium and demonstrated enough pace to challenge his championship rival throughout Race 2. However, with only the reversed-grid contest remaining at Snetterton, O’Grady has already emerged as the major beneficiary from the weekend.
Race 3 is due to begin at 14:40 BST.
