Fast Friday at the Indy 500 ahead of round 7 of the 2026 IndyCar season has been completed, view the full results here.
With the boost in play, speeds would go up above 230 mph today. Alex Palou, Conor Daly and Pato O’Ward had the led the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sessions as many of the usual suspects at the 500 showed very strong speed.
Due to rain, the action started at 14:00 instead of 12:00 local time. While there was an hour lost, the end time was moved to 19:00.
McLaughlin tops the times at the halfway stage
Following the deep hurt and heartbreak in 2025, Scott McLaughlin started Fast Friday very nicely ahead of qualifying weekend at the Indy 500. A 232.674 mph lap from the New Zealander saw him lead three former winners in Takuma Sato, Marcus Ericsson and Alex Rossi. Daly, Palou, Malukas, Ferrucci and Dixon completed the top 10. Recent oval king Josef Newgarden was 13th.
30 of the 33 drivers had reached 230 mph or more with 150 minutes left. Only Armstrong, Legge and Hauger had failed to do so, with those three in the 229 mph bracket.
On the entry to turn 3, Marcus Ericsson hit 241.7 mph at one stage as the speeds went to another level in cloudy conditions. Unsurprisingly, it had him right in the mix in the top 3.
Regarding the best four-lap average, the driver of car #3 was P1 in that as well as Team Penske continued to be absolutely rapid at IMS. Alex Rossi and David Malukas were P2 and P3 on this list. Dreyer and Reinbold Racing’s Conor Daly and Jack Harvey sat in 5th and 9th.
