Day 1 of the IndyCar Open Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been completed as all 33 2026 Indy 500 entries took to the track. View the full results here.

The action started with oval veterans, aka those on the 2026 grid full-time who have completed at the Indy 500 already. That lasted two hours.

Schumacher, Collet, Abel and Hauger would run in the ROP, alongside the experienced one-off drivers for the Indy 500 as they tackled the refresher programme: Harvey, Hunter-Reay, Carpenter, Castroneves and Legge. They also got two hours.

Day 1 concluded with four hours of running for all the field.

Rookies and refreshers

By the end of this session, only Dennis Hauger (ROP) and Katherine Legge (refresher) had not fully completed things. It meant 31 of the 33 cars were eligible for the Indy 500 at this point. The British driver had a clutch issue, hence her lack of running.

Just over an hour before the action came to a close on the opening day, Dennis Hauger officially completed his ROP, leaving just Katherine Legge to finish her refresher one and making all 33 entries eligible to run at the 2026 Indy 500.

With less than 30 minutes to go, Christian Rasmussen parked his car in the run-off at turn 2 with a right rear wheel nut issue.
