Practice 2 for round 4 of the 2026 IndyCar season at Barber is in the books, view the full results here.
In opening practice on Friday afternoon, Scott McLaughlin edged Kyle Kirkwood to be fastest on day one.
At the very tricky turn 13, Nolan Siegel brought out the red flags. Having had understeer on entry, he lost the rear on exit as he tried to get back on power. Fortunately for him, he avoided the wall but got stuck.
One-time race winner Christian Rasmussen had a spin at turn 5 but could continue on without any problems.
In the closing minutes, Scott McLaughlin had one of the scariest crashes seen on an IndyCar road course. After putting his right hand side tyres on the grass on the entry to turn 1, the #3 car went through the gravel at high speed down the end of that straight. Incredibly, it cleared the tyre barriers/part of the air fence and got stuck in some bushes behind it. He was seen and cleared by the IndyCar medical team.
Thankfully, the Kiwi driver was okay. Despite a massive looking accident, the car held up unbelievably well. Unsurprisingly, the split field running was called off as plenty of repairs need to be made.
A 1:06.648 from defending champion and CGR driver Alex Palou saw the Spaniard pace the field by a few hundredths. Championship leader Kyle Kirkwood was right behind him in P2 as Andretti continue to be strong on all types of tracks this year.
VeeKay, Grosjean, Armstrong, Rahal, Ericsson, Collet, Lundgaard and O’Ward rounded out the top 10. Scott McLaughlin was P12.
