The 2026 IndyCar Detroit GP is complete, view the full race results below.
During Qualifying in Detroit, Alex Palou scored his third consecutive pole position of the season. Palou started the race ahead of Will Power and Scott McLaughlin.
Indy 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist started the race from P16. After crashing during Qualifying, runner-up David Malukas started the race down in P25.
What Happened?
Palou maintained his lead on the race start, while McLaughlin got past Power for P2. On Lap 10, Christian Rasmussen clipped the wall and stopped on track, bringing out a full-course yellow. The race restarted on Lap 15. Power got past McLaughlin for P2, then got past Palou for the lead.
On Lap 32, the top four cars fought for the lead. Palou dropped two positions to McLaughlin and Lundgaard, pitting afterwards. Then, McLaughlin took the lead as Power dropped back. Both cars pit immediately after their battle, but Palou successfully undercut them.
Graham Rahal made contact with Kyffin Simpson and hit the wall on Lap 39, bringing out another yellow flag. Armstrong received a penalty for entering the pits when they were closed. Simpson also received a penalty for his move on Rahal.
On Lap 45, the race restarted. Palou maintained her lead ahead of Kirkwood and McLaughlin. On Lap 66, another full-course yellow is called. Santino Ferrucci spun Rinus VeeKay’s car around. Palou, Rossi, Schumacher and Malukas pit before the caution, cycling up towards the front of the grid. Unfortunately, Dixon retired from the race due to a mechanical issue, and Rossi received a penalty for entering the pits when they were closed.
The race restarted on Lap 73. Schumacher and Malukas went deep into the corner while fighting for a podium position, bringing out another full-course yellow.
On Lap 77, the race restarted. Palou maintained his lead as Kirkwood took P2. McLaughlin and Power fought each other, with the No. 3 Penske driver squeezing Power into the wall. Power retired from the race.
Final Laps
On Lap 80, Santino Ferrucci stopped on track, bringing out yet another yellow flag. On Lap 83, the race restarted. Palou maintained his lead ahead of Kirkwood and Rahal. McLaughlin appeared to have damage from his contact with Power, pitting with 10 laps to go.
On Lap 90, Rossi made contact with Romain Grosjean, who ended up in the wall. Another full-course yellow is called. Rossi received another penalty.
The race restarted on Lap 93. Again, Palou maintained his lead ahead of Kirkwood, taking home the win. Graham Rahal rounded out the podium, scoring his third podium of the season.
