IndyCar Practice 1 at Gateway ahead of round 8 of the 2026 season has been completed, view the full results here.
Ahead of the session, Arrow McLaren announced that Ryan Hunter-Reay would become the team’s Sporting Director. Earlier in the week, ECR confirmed Christian Rasmussen had signed a new multi-year contract to stay in the #21.
Alex Palou went into the weekend having won at Detroit, extending his championship lead over Kyle Kirkwood to 62 points. Malukas, Lundgaard and O’Ward completed the top 5 in the standings.
Scott Dixon (P11) and Will Power (P18) looked for a good result to move up in the points standings.
In practice itself, Rinus VeeKay found the wall as he broke his rear wing and damaged the left rear suspension in the process. It was a shame for the Dutchman as he was in a very strong P4 on the charts before binning it.
Right at the end, Pato O’Ward jumped to the top of the standings, beating Palou and Rosenqvist to P1. Armstrong and Ericsson completed the top 5. David Malukas was the lead Penske in 6th.
