Nolan Siegel was the first one to put a time on the board during the first IndyCar practice at Laguna Seca. The Californian track hosts the traditional season ender for the IndyCar series, where Álex Palou has been crowned champion for the fifth time in total, and the fourth time in succession.
Mick Schumacher to join Meyer Shank Racing
Prior to the racing action starting off the Indy 500-winning team of Meyer Shank Racing announced they chose Mick Schumacher to take the place of Felix Rosenqvist in 2027.
The red flag comes out after about 15 minutes of the joint practice as Josef Newgarden spins out in turn 6. The session is quickly resumed however, as he can continue his way.
With 15 minutes to go in the first part of the session, it is Rosenqvist who leads the pack. Coming to the end, it is however the inevitable Palou who takes P1. The joint part of the session ends with Santino Ferrucci in the wall in turn 9
Split sessions
Group 1’s practice started fairly uneventful until Siegel went wide in turn 3. Team mate Christian Lundgaard did something similar in turn 10, but managed to keep it on the black stuff. On top of the table? Álex Palou of course.
Group 2 had little issues, with all participants being able to turn their laps. At the chequered flag, it was Rosenqvist with the fastest time.
