The opening race of the 2026 IndyCar season has been completed at St. Pete, view the full results below.

For the second year in a row, Scott McLaughlin took to the green flag from pole position. Marcus Ericsson and Dennis Hauger on debut completed the top 3. Alex Palou went off from 4th. Big names like Will Power, Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden needed to make big progress to get to the front.

There was an immediate yellow on the first lap. Sting Ray Robb, Santino Ferrucci and Mick Schumacher got caught up in an incident at turn 4 thanks to the Juncos driver locking up and being out of control, putting the #14 in the tyres with him. The AJ Foyt Racing and RLL drivers were out on the spot. Schumacher’s car ended up on the rear wing of Ferrucci.

A lock-up for David Malukas on the restart would bite him a few laps later as the flat spot on his left front tyre became a puncture. The man who he replaced at Team Penske, Will Power, crashed at turn 10 a few laps later. It was a nightmare Andretti debut for the Aussie.

Scott Dixon boxed on lap 39. Unfortunately for him a loose right rear tyre change meant his race was done as the tyre went flying away into the turn 4 runoff.

Once Alex Palou got out front through the first round of stops, he drove away from the field and took a commanding win. Scott McLaughlin and Christian Lundgaard completed the top 3, over 12s behind.

Despite fuel issues, Kyle Kirkwood held on for 4th from Pato O’Ward. Josef Newgarden went from P23 to P7.
