The 2026 FIA F4 Chinese Championship delivered a season characterised by changing championship leaders, unpredictable race results and closely contested battles across its three driver classifications. Timur Shagaliev ultimately emerged as Drivers’ Champion for Asia Racing Team RFN, while CHAMP Academy secured the Teams’ Championship following a season-long contest with Black Blade Racing and Asia Racing Team RFN.

The championship featured six rounds and 24 races across Shanghai, Tianjin, Ningbo, Chengdu, Hunan and Zhuhai. Throughout the campaign, drivers competed in the F4, CFGP and Master categories, with all three classifications contributing to the overall championship while also contesting separate class honours.

Six drivers from three teams claimed overall victories during the season. Kimi Chan established himself as the championship’s most successful race winner, securing nine victories for CHAMP Academy. Shagaliev followed with six, while Zhao Zijun claimed three. Josh Feng, Yu Yan and Chen Sicong completed the list with two victories each.

Although Chan dominated the opening round at Shanghai, Shagaliev gradually reduced his advantage before taking the championship lead at Chengdu. The title fight subsequently tightened at Hunan, where Chan reduced a 47-point deficit to just 18, ensuring the championship remained undecided heading into Zhuhai.

Shagaliev eventually secured the Drivers’ Championship with 374 points, nine ahead of Chan, while Yu finished third on 305. Meanwhile, CHAMP Academy and Black Blade Racing ended the Teams’ Championship level on 554 points, with CHAMP claiming the title on countback. Chen Sicong and Andy Law also secured the CFGP and Master championships, respectively.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 1: Shanghai: Chan establishes early championship advantage

The 2026 Chinese F4 season began at Shanghai International Circuit, where Chan immediately established himself as the leading contender by claiming three victories across the opening four races.

The CHAMP Academy driver began the weekend with pole position, although Shagaliev made the stronger start to Race 1 and briefly led. However, an early Safety Car interruption brought the field together before Chan reclaimed first. Mechanical problems subsequently eliminated Shagaliev and Yu, allowing Chan to secure the opening victory ahead of Chen Sicong and Shi Wei.

Race 2 followed a similar pattern, although the reversed-grid format initially placed Jiang Wei at the front. Chan progressed through the field before overtaking Chen Sicong at Turn 7 to claim his second consecutive victory. Shagaliev recovered from his opening-race retirement to finish third.

Chan completed his hat-trick in Race 3, controlling the contest despite further Safety Car interruptions. Yu finished second, while Shagaliev recovered through the field to secure another podium.

However, the final race produced a different winner. Shagaliev charged from tenth on the grid to claim his maiden victory of the season, overtaking teammate Feng before resisting Chan’s challenge.

The opening-round results at Shanghai established Chan as the championship leader with 93 points, 38 ahead of Shagaliev. Chen Sicong followed in third, while CHAMP Academy led the Teams’ Championship.

Black Blade Racing also demonstrated its competitiveness through Chen Sicong and Yu, suggesting the championship would involve more than the two leading F4 contenders.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 2: Tianjin: Zhao and Feng break through as Shagaliev closes championship gap

The championship continued at Tianjin, where heavy rain disrupted the opening preparations and forced organisers to combine the qualifying sessions into a single 40-minute contest.

Shagaliev secured his maiden pole position ahead of Zhao and Chen Sicong, but the opening race belonged to Feng. The Asia Racing Team RFN driver overtook Shagaliev at Turn 13 on lap seven before controlling the remainder of the contest to claim his first single-seater victory. Chen Zhuyuan finished second, with Shagaliev third.

Race 2 introduced another winner as Zhao secured victory during his first single-seater weekend. Several incidents disrupted the contest, including contact involving Chan during a restart that forced the championship leader to retire. Zhao avoided the difficulties and finished ahead of Shagaliev and Chen Sicong.

Chan responded in Race 3, overtaking Shagaliev to claim his fourth victory of the season. However, the race ended behind the Safety Car following Yu’s accident at Turn 13. Shagaliev finished second, while Chen Zhuyuan inherited third after Feng received a track-limits penalty.

The final race produced another dramatic championship moment. Chan challenged Shagaliev for the lead before contact at the chicane forced him to retire. Zhao consequently claimed his second victory, with Shagaliev finishing second.

The eventful Tianjin weekend dramatically reduced Chan’s championship advantage. Despite winning Race 3, his two retirements allowed Shagaliev to close within four points after finishing on the podium in all four races.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 3: Ningbo: Four winners share victories as Chan retains championship lead

Ningbo International Circuit produced one of the most competitive weekends of the season, with four different drivers claiming victories across the four races.

Chan began the round by securing pole position, but Chen Sicong delivered the strongest performance in Race 1. The Black Blade Racing driver converted his pace into an outright victory from the CFGP category, holding off Shagaliev by just 0.642 seconds. Chan completed the podium, allowing him to retain the championship advantage.

Zhao responded in Race 2 with his third victory of the season. The CHAMP Academy driver finished 4.334 seconds ahead of Feng, while Yu claimed third. However, Shagaliev endured a costly retirement, allowing Chan to extend his advantage despite finishing only fifth.

The third race provided Shagaliev with an opportunity to recover. Starting from the front, the Asia Racing Team RFN driver secured his second victory of the season by just 0.599 seconds over Yu. Chen Sicong finished third, while Chan again limited the damage by taking fifth.

Chan subsequently completed the weekend with victory in Race 4, securing a CHAMP Academy one-two ahead of Zhao. Yuanyang Zeshi produced an impressive performance to finish third overall and lead the CFGP competitors for Pointer Racing.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 4: Chengdu: Shagaliev overturns deficit as Yu claims maiden victory

Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit produced the most significant championship reversal of the season, with Shagaliev transforming a 13-point deficit into a 47-point advantage.

Chan began the weekend by securing pole position in wet conditions, beating Shagaliev by just 0.008 seconds. However, Shagaliev took the lead at the start of Race 1 and controlled the contest to claim his third victory. Chan initially finished second but subsequently received a technical disqualification, eliminating his championship points from the race.

Feng secured his second victory of the season in Race 2, moving ahead during a competitive reversed-grid contest. Chen Sicong finished second, while Shagaliev recovered from 12th to claim third. Chan could only manage fifth.

The third race provided Shagaliev with another opportunity to extend his advantage. Despite Zhao starting from pole, Shagaliev made the stronger opening lap and secured his second victory of the weekend. Zhao finished second, with Chen Zhuyuan third and Chan fifth.

Yu then claimed his maiden Chinese F4 victory in Race 4, completing an impressive move past Feng and Yang Peng at the final corner. Zhao finished second, while Shagaliev secured another podium. Chan endured further difficulties and finished 17th following a penalty.

The decisive Chengdu weekend allowed Shagaliev to score 80 points compared with Chan’s 20. Asia Racing Team RFN also moved into the Teams’ Championship lead following three victories.

Chengdu fundamentally changed the championship. Shagaliev moved ahead for the first time and established his largest advantage of the season, while Chan faced an increasingly difficult recovery. Yu’s victory also strengthened his position as a championship contender, with only five points separating third and fifth.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 5: Hunan: Chan responds with double victory as championship tightens

Hunan International Circuit provided Chan with an opportunity to recover from his difficult Chengdu weekend. The CHAMP Academy driver arrived 47 points behind Shagaliev but immediately demonstrated his pace by securing both pole positions.

The second qualifying session proved particularly competitive, with Chan beating Yu by just 0.001 seconds. However, the opening race went to Yu, who capitalised on a chaotic start involving Chan and Shagaliev before controlling the restarted contest. Chan finished second, while Shagaliev completed the podium.

Chan responded in Race 2 with an exceptional recovery from 11th on the reversed grid. He gained eight positions on the opening lap before passing Turkin for the lead and securing his sixth victory of the season. Shagaliev finished second, limiting the championship damage.

The third race produced another victory for Chan, who converted pole position into his seventh win. Shagaliev again finished second, while Chen Zhuyuan completed the podium.

However, the final race changed the championship picture once more. A first-lap incident involving Shagaliev, Turkin, Zhang and Tian Feng forced officials to stop the contest, with the championship leader unable to continue. Chen Sicong subsequently claimed his second outright victory, leading a Black Blade Racing one-two ahead of Yu.

Chan finished fourth, completing a weekend in which he scored 80 points compared with Shagaliev’s 51. The Hunan results reduced the championship gap to just 18 points with four races remaining.

Chan recovered 29 points, while Black Blade Racing moved into the Teams’ Championship lead for the first time. Only ten points separated the leading three organisations, ensuring both championships remained open heading into Zhuhai.

2026 Chinese F4 Round 6: Zhuhai: Shagaliev clinches championship as Chan claims two victories

Zhuhai International Circuit hosted a dramatic conclusion to the 2026 championship, with Shagaliev and Chan entering the final round separated by just 18 points.

Shagaliev immediately strengthened his position by securing both pole positions. He converted the first into victory in Race 1, resisting Yu throughout the closing stages to finish just 0.462 seconds ahead. Chan completed the podium, while newcomer Sun Anzhe impressed by finishing fourth.

The reversed-grid second race allowed Chan to respond. The CHAMP Academy driver recovered through the field before overtaking Zhao for the lead, eventually securing his eighth victory by just 0.317 seconds over Shagaliev. Yu finished third.

Sunday’s opening race proved decisive. A multi-car accident involving Wang Zejun interrupted the contest, but Shagaliev maintained the lead after the restart. He eventually secured his sixth victory of the season ahead of Sun and Yu, while Chan finished fourth.

The result increased Shagaliev’s championship advantage to 34 points, securing the title with one race remaining.

Chan nevertheless concluded the season with another victory in Race 4, finishing ahead of Yu and Liu Shangqing. Shagaliev retired following contact with Chen Sicong, reducing the final championship margin to nine points.

The season finale at Zhuhai also settled the Teams’ Championship. CHAMP Academy finished level with Black Blade Racing on 554 points but secured the title through its superior victory count.

Shagaliev’s victory in Race 3 secured the Drivers’ Championship before the finale, while Chan’s ninth win reduced the final margin. The Teams’ Championship remained exceptionally close, with all three leading organisations finishing within five points of one another after 24 races.

Shagaliev’s journey to the title: Consistency proves decisive against Chan’s outright pace

Shagaliev entered the 2026 Chinese F4 season as one of the principal contenders, but his championship challenge began with difficulties at Shanghai. An opening-race retirement prevented him from matching Chan’s dominant start, although he recovered to claim two podiums before securing his maiden victory in Race 4.

Tianjin marked an important turning point. While Chan endured two retirements, Shagaliev finished on the podium in all four races, reducing the championship deficit from 38 points to just four.

Ningbo proved more complicated. Shagaliev secured another victory in Race 3 but retired from Race 2, allowing Chan to extend his advantage to 13 points.

However, Chengdu transformed the championship. Shagaliev claimed two victories and two third-place finishes, collecting 80 points as Chan struggled. The result moved him into the championship lead for the first time, establishing a 47-point advantage.

Hunan provided another challenge when Chan secured two victories and Shagaliev retired from the finale. Despite three podium finishes, his advantage fell to 18 points.

Shagaliev nevertheless delivered his strongest response when the championship reached Zhuhai. Both pole positions and victories in Races 1 and 3 allowed him to secure the title before the final race.

The Russian completed the campaign with six victories, 19 overall podium finishes and 374 points. Although Chan won three more races, Shagaliev’s ability to recover from setbacks and consistently finish near the front ultimately secured the championship.

Chan’s nine victories highlight closest championship challenge

Chan produced the most victories of any driver during the 2026 season, establishing himself as the early benchmark through his dominant Shanghai performance.

His three victories and second place during the opening round gave him a 38-point advantage over Shagaliev. However, Tianjin demonstrated how quickly that lead could disappear. Contact and incidents resulted in two retirements, allowing his championship rival to close within four points.

Chan regained momentum at Ningbo, securing another victory and extending his advantage to 13. Yet Chengdu represented his most difficult weekend. A technical disqualification in Race 1, combined with two fifth-place results and a 17th-place finish in the finale, allowed Shagaliev to take control.

The CHAMP Academy driver responded strongly during the final two rounds. At Hunan, he secured both pole positions and won Races 2 and 3, recovering 29 points in the championship battle. He continued that form at Zhuhai, winning both reversed-grid races.

However, Shagaliev’s victories in the remaining two contests prevented Chan from overturning the deficit.

Chan ultimately finished runner-up with 365 points, nine behind the champion. His nine victories accounted for 37.5% of the season’s races, underlining his outright competitiveness despite the setbacks that shaped his championship campaign.

Yu, Chen Sicong and Zhao shape the chasing pack

Yu emerged as one of the championship’s most consistent competitors, eventually finishing third overall for Black Blade Racing with 305 points.

The driver regularly challenged for podiums during the opening rounds, but Chengdu marked his first overall victory. His decisive move during Race 4 allowed him to defeat Zhao and Shagaliev, establishing himself as an outright race winner.

Yu added another victory at Hunan before completing the Zhuhai finale with four podium finishes. His consistency across the final rounds allowed him to strengthen his hold on third place, finishing comfortably ahead of teammate Chen Sicong.

Chen Sicong also delivered an impressive campaign, competing in the CFGP category while regularly challenging drivers in the F4 classification. His breakthrough overall victory came at Ningbo, where he defeated Shagaliev by 0.642 seconds.

He added another outright victory during the Hunan finale, securing a Black Blade Racing one-two ahead of Yu. Chen eventually finished fourth overall with 249 points while dominating the CFGP classification.

Zhao represented another important breakthrough. He claimed two victories during his first single-seater weekend at Tianjin before adding a third at Ningbo. Although he missed Hunan, his earlier performances allowed him to finish sixth overall on 189 points.

Together, Yu, Chen and Zhao demonstrated the strength of the competition beyond the two principal championship contenders.

Feng and Chen Zhuyuan contribute to competitive midfield battle

Feng also established himself as an important contender during the 2026 season, securing two overall victories for Asia Racing Team RFN and regularly contributing points alongside Shagaliev.

His first breakthrough came at Tianjin, where he overtook Shagaliev before controlling Race 1 to claim his maiden single-seater victory. The result demonstrated his competitiveness against the championship’s established leaders.

Feng added another victory at Chengdu, taking advantage of the reversed-grid contest to defeat Chen Sicong and Shagaliev. His success proved particularly important for Asia Racing Team RFN, which collected three victories across the weekend and moved into the Teams’ Championship lead.

Although Feng subsequently faced difficulties at Hunan, he returned to consistent points-scoring form during the Zhuhai finale. He completed the season seventh overall on 175 points, contributing significantly to his team’s championship challenge.

Chen Zhuyuan produced a different type of campaign for Blackjack Racing RFN. Although he did not secure an overall victory, he consistently challenged the leading drivers and collected several podium finishes, particularly during the opening four rounds.

His strong performances at Tianjin and Chengdu helped him remain among the championship’s leading contenders despite the increasing pace of the front-running teams.

Chen completed the season fifth overall with 210 points, finishing ahead of Zhao and Feng and establishing himself as one of the strongest drivers outside the three leading teams.

CHAMP Academy secures Teams’ Championship on countback

The Teams’ Championship developed into one of the closest battles of the 2026 season, with CHAMP Academy, Black Blade Racing and Asia Racing Team RFN exchanging positions throughout the campaign.

CHAMP established the early advantage through Chan’s dominant Shanghai weekend before strengthening its position at Tianjin, where Zhao claimed two victories. The organisation continued leading after Ningbo, reaching 307 points and establishing a 41-point advantage over Asia Racing Team RFN.

However, Chengdu changed the order. Shagaliev and Feng combined for three victories, allowing Asia Racing Team RFN to move ahead with 389 points, six clear of CHAMP.

Black Blade Racing subsequently emerged as the leading organisation at Hunan. Yu and Chen Sicong claimed two victories, lifting the team to 468 points and establishing a narrow advantage over CHAMP on 463.

The championship therefore reached Zhuhai with only ten points separating the leading three teams.

CHAMP’s strong finale ultimately allowed it to draw level with Black Blade Racing on 554 points. However, its 12 victories, nine from Chan and three from Zhao, secured the title on countback against Black Blade’s four.

Asia Racing Team RFN finished third on 549, just five behind the champions. Its eight victories, six from Shagaliev and two from Feng, demonstrated the organisation’s pace throughout the campaign, although CHAMP’s greater victory total proved decisive.

Chen Sicong dominates CFGP class while rivals battle for second

The CFGP category produced a different championship trajectory, with Chen Sicong establishing a substantial advantage through his consistency and ability to challenge the leading F4 competitors.

The Black Blade Racing driver immediately demonstrated his competitiveness at Shanghai, finishing second overall in the opening two races. His results placed him third in the overall standings after Round 1 and established an important foundation for his CFGP campaign.

Chen continued scoring consistently at Tianjin before securing his first outright victory at Ningbo. The result strengthened his category advantage, allowing him to enter the second half of the season with 247 class points.

Chengdu provided another successful weekend despite a retirement in Race 3. Chen secured further category victories and increased his total to 312.

Hunan subsequently produced one of his strongest performances. He won the CFGP category in the final three races and claimed another outright victory during Race 4.

Although Zhuhai brought two retirements, Chen added another two category victories and completed the championship on 455 points.

Zhang Jun secured second in the CFGP standings with 302, having regularly scored points throughout the campaign. Yuanyang Zeshi finished third on 197 despite missing the final two rounds, narrowly ahead of Qi Diqin on 192.

Chen’s 153-point advantage reflected a campaign in which he combined consistent class performances with the ability to challenge for overall victories.

Andy Law claims Master title after late challenge from Ken Chow

The Master category delivered another closely contested championship, with Andy Law eventually securing the title ahead of Ken Chow and Jiang Wei.

Law established himself as an early contender through his performances at Shanghai and Tianjin. His consistency proved important as the championship moved through Ningbo, where he maintained the category lead despite failing to finish two races.

The Kai Fei Racing driver subsequently extended his advantage at Chengdu, reaching 243 points while Chow and Jiang continued challenging for class honours.

However, Hunan introduced a new threat in Viktor Turkin. The Blackjack Racing RFN driver claimed victories in the opening three Master contests, immediately demonstrating his competitiveness despite having joined the championship late.

Chow won the final race at Hunan, reducing Law’s advantage to only five points ahead of Zhuhai.

The finale consequently became decisive. Turkin again emerged as the strongest Master competitor, securing three further victories across the weekend. However, Law maintained his position through consistent finishes, while Chow’s Race 3 retirement limited his opportunity to overturn the deficit.

Jiang claimed the remaining Master victory in Race 3 but could not challenge the leading two in the championship standings.

Law eventually secured the title with 330 points, 17 ahead of Chow. Jiang completed the top three on 264, while Turkin finished fifth despite winning six of the eight Master races he contested across the final two rounds.

Six race winners from three teams define 2026 Chinese F4 season

The 2026 championship produced six different outright race winners across its 24 races, with CHAMP Academy, Asia Racing Team RFN and Black Blade Racing sharing every victory.

Chan led the classification with nine victories, taking three at Shanghai, one at Tianjin, one at Ningbo, two at Hunan and two at Zhuhai. His performances demonstrated the outright speed that kept him in championship contention until the final round.

Shagaliev followed with six victories, securing one at Shanghai, another at Ningbo, two at Chengdu and two at Zhuhai. His late-season performances proved particularly significant, with four victories across the final three rounds allowing him to secure the championship.

Zhao claimed three victories, taking two at Tianjin before adding another at Ningbo. Feng followed with two victories, securing his first at Tianjin and a second at Chengdu.

Yu and Chen Sicong also claimed two wins each. Yu secured his maiden victory at Chengdu before adding another at Hunan, while Chen won at Ningbo and Hunan.

CHAMP Academy emerged as the most successful team with 12 victories, followed by Asia Racing Team RFN with eight and Black Blade Racing with four.

The distribution reflected the closely contested nature of the championship, particularly as the three organisations continued exchanging the Teams’ Championship lead throughout the campaign.

Two Drivers’ Championship leaders and decisive swings in momentum

The progression of the Drivers’ Championship provides one of the clearest illustrations of how the 2026 Chinese F4 season developed.

Chan established the opening advantage at Shanghai, collecting 93 points to lead Shagaliev by 38. However, Tianjin reduced that margin to just four after the championship leader suffered two retirements.

Ningbo allowed Chan to regain some ground, extending his lead to 13 points despite Shagaliev’s Race 3 victory.

The decisive change came at Chengdu. Shagaliev collected 80 points through two victories and two third-place finishes, while Chan managed only 20 following his disqualification and difficult finale. The result transformed a 13-point deficit into a 47-point advantage.

However, Hunan prevented Shagaliev from maintaining that comfortable lead. Chan’s double victory and Shagaliev’s final-race retirement reduced the gap to 18 points with four races remaining.

Zhuhai ultimately determined the championship. Shagaliev won Races 1 and 3, increasing his advantage to 34 points and mathematically securing the title before Race 4. Chan’s final victory reduced the margin to nine, but could not change the championship outcome.

The Teams’ Championship followed an even more unpredictable trajectory. CHAMP Academy led the opening three rounds before Asia Racing Team RFN moved ahead at Chengdu. Black Blade Racing subsequently took control at Hunan, but CHAMP reclaimed the title on countback after Zhuhai.

Shagaliev and CHAMP Academy conclude dramatic 2026 championship

The 2026 Chinese F4 Championship delivered a closely contested season in which the Drivers’, Teams’ and individual class championships developed along different trajectories.

Shagaliev began the campaign behind Chan, whose three victories at Shanghai established an early advantage. However, consistent podium finishes at Tianjin allowed the Russian to reduce the deficit before Chengdu transformed the title battle in his favour.

Chan’s response at Hunan subsequently ensured the championship remained open, but Shagaliev delivered the decisive performances at Zhuhai. His two pole positions and victories in Races 1 and 3 secured the Drivers’ Championship before the final race, allowing him to finish the season with six victories and 374 points.

The Teams’ Championship produced an equally dramatic conclusion. Although Black Blade Racing entered the final round with a narrow advantage, CHAMP Academy’s performances allowed the two organisations to finish level on 554 points. CHAMP ultimately secured the title through its superior victory count, while Asia Racing Team RFN completed the top three just five points behind.

Elsewhere, Yu finished third in the Drivers’ Championship after claiming two victories, while Chen Sicong combined two outright wins with the CFGP title. Law secured the Master Championship after resisting Chow’s late challenge, completing another closely contested class battle.

Across 24 races, the season featured six overall winners, two Drivers’ Championship leaders and three Teams’ Championship leaders. Technical disqualifications, retirements, closely fought races and changing championship advantages all contributed to the outcome.

Ultimately, Shagaliev’s ability to combine race-winning pace with consistent results proved decisive against Chan’s greater number of victories. Meanwhile, CHAMP Academy secured the Teams’ Championship through its sustained success across the season, completing a memorable 2026 campaign for Chinese F4.
