After a morning Alex Albon described as “disappointing” at Miami and a safety car controversy that left him frustrated, the Williams driver managed a decent P7 in qualifying for the F1 GP.
A tumultuous F1 Miami GP qualifying for Albon
The Miami International Autodrome surprised everyone with a rain-covered track in the Sprint on Saturday.
While Verstappen and the McLarens fought for pole in the dry, Albon pieced together a P7 finish in qualifying.
Albon started qualifying just after he was informed that his P4 Sprint finish was taken away from him due to him failing to stay above the minimum time under Safety Car conditions, demoting him to P11.
Following qualifying, he noted, “I feel so mixed right now. I feel so disappointed about this morning.
“Really good points for the team. In the end, driver error, yes, I’ll hold my hand up to it, but I think really harsh on the stewards to do it… I did it for safety.
“Qualifying good, you know, happy. I think I got told the news about five minutes before getting ready, so it was a bit like, try to shake it off as much as you can and go into it.”
“It got away from me a little bit in the last lap. Made a couple of mistakes, but overall very happy.”
Albon: “I said I’m very happy… not really!”
Whilst considering if he will be able to hold position or move forwards in the Miami GP, Albon claimed “it’s going to be a team game.”
With Leclerc behind him and teammate Sainz in front, the pair will have work to do to keep the Ferrari’s behind.
“Likely it’s going to be about holding strong and seeing where we come out.
“Depends how we get off the line, but I likely think we’re going to try to hold off the Ferraris.”
