Since Brad Joyce joined Van Amersfoort Racing in October 2024 as F2 and F3 Team Principal, the team has undergone significant evolution—both on and off the track. With nearly two decades of experience in Formula 1, Joyce stepped into the senior leadership role with a clear mission: elevate Van Amersfoort Racing’s performance and instill a winning ethos across all racing categories.

His résumé is rich with technical prowess, boasting past engineering roles in F3000, BTCC, GTs, and multiple F1 teams, most notably Aston Martin. Having worked with championship-calibre drivers and development teams, Joyce brought more than just expertise—he introduced a culture of excellence, one focused on teamwork, purpose, and consistent progression.

Engineering foundations and cultural ethos

Joyce’s arrival has already begun to pay dividends, especially in F3. Speaking on the changes he has overseen during a media event attended by Pit Debrief, Joyce highlighted the multi-faceted nature of improvement.

“I think we are trying to make a good team ethos. We have improved the engineering basis of all the teams. Yes, there has been an impact, but it is in many, many areas, and it is all about details rather than one complete piece. But yes, it is mostly engineering focused and building a strong team of people that enjoy what they are doing and are all pulling in the right direction.”

This holistic approach has placed equal emphasis on technical enhancements and interpersonal dynamics. Not only has Van Amersfoort Racing refined its engineering structure, but it has also fostered a working environment where each team member, from driver to mechanic, contributes to a shared goal.

Tangible progress in F3 performance

Under Joyce’s leadership, the impact is most evident in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship. Currently 4th in the standings with 124 points, Van Amersfoort Racing has already surpassed its 2024 finish of 7th place and 91 points. This marks the team’s best F3 performance since joining the championship in 2022, a season they also concluded with 91 points and 6th in the standings. The upward trajectory affirms that Joyce’s integrated approach is yielding competitive gains.

Strength in team dynamics

Team spirit, often the intangible backbone of any successful outfit, has also noticeably improved. Joyce took the opportunity to underline this collective cohesion: “I have been very happy with the way that the team has been working together and pulling together. And the drivers are all getting on really well as well with each other. So yes, it is a good team dynamic at the moment and everybody seems to be enjoying themselves and working very hard.”

Such camaraderie is essential in a category like F3, where marginal gains often separate victory from defeat. A harmonious working environment—one in which drivers and engineers align—is increasingly a competitive asset, not just a cultural one.

F2: A work in progress

In F2, progress has been less pronounced, though the structural groundwork continues to develop. Currently 10th in the 2025 F2 standings with 11 points, Van Amersfoort Racing remains in the early stages of a longer-term rebuild in the category. Previous seasons saw the team finishing 11th in 2024 with 78 points and 7th in 2023 with 121 points. Nevertheless, the foundations laid in engineering and team culture suggest that more sustained performance could be on the horizon.

Looking ahead

As the 2025 season continues, Van Amersfoort Racing appears poised to consolidate its gains in F3 while continuing to refine its F2 operations. Joyce’s emphasis on engineering precision, attention to detail, and nurturing a united team reflects the hallmarks of sustained performance development.

If this trajectory holds, Van Amersfoort Racing may soon transition from mid-field contender to title challenger—fulfilling the vision Joyce brought with him when he first walked through the doors in late 2024.
