Nick Cassidy left delighted after what he said was his “most dominant win” in his Formula E career. The Kiwi stormed to victory, converting pole position into his 11th Formula E win in what would be his last race with the Jaguar outfit.

Was this his favourite win ever?

Off the back of his win in the opening race of the weekend in London, Cassidy claimed that it was his favourite win of his career. But, when asked if he wanted to change his answer, the 30 year-old admitted it was “difficult to answer.”

Today was probably my biggest win and most dominant race in Formula E,” said Cassidy in the post race press conference. “The race went perfectly and I felt very good with the performance.”

“My car really was super and I was able to control it quite well. It’s probably the most relaxed I’ve been in a racing car in a long time.”

Reflecting on a season full of highs and lows

Departing the opening race of the season in Mexico City Cassidy openly admitted the pace was not there. Now, having secured second place in the driver’s and team’s championship he reflected on what was a “roller coaster” of a season.

“I’ve been very open when talking about performance,” admitted Cassidy. “Maybe we didn’t have the performance but sometimes there were some points left on the table. I have to look at myself of course and say there were some races that I could’ve done a better job in.”

“For me the story of the season is that Oliver’s been dominant. It’s nothing to do with the start of my season. He’s been the better driver and I’ve had the better car and team this year.”

The important role Mitch Evans’ qualifying sacrifice played

Cassidy added he was “surprised” that in qualifying Evans, slowed in qualifying to allow his fellow Kiwi to progress in the qualifying stages. As a result giving him a better chance of securing second in the driver’s championship.

I was surprised to have that situation in qualifying,” Cassidy explained. “It wasn’t spoken about before qualifying. I wasn’t as fast on one lap pace today and actually went backwards a little bit.”

“Mitch and I finished one-two on track. I was always trying to support him and keep me behind him but it’s not easy. Unfortunately it didn’t work out for him but of course I would do anything to help.”

Cassidy full of praise for departing James Barkley

Having shared 32 races with Jaguar’s team principle James Barclay (who departs following London) the veteran driver has nothing but praise for him.

“He was very influential in brining me to the team. I’m just thankful he could offer me the opportunity to drive for the team that put me in a position where I can show what I can do.”

He’s been a massive pillar for this team for 11 seasons. The role that he played to have Jaguar as a brand in this championship for such a long time is huge.”

He’s going to be very successful in the future with his new role and is going to be missed.
