As F2 prepares for its ninth round of the 2025 championship at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Dino Beganovic is gearing up for what promises to be another thrilling weekend at one of motorsport’s most iconic venues. Beganovic, carries both fond memories and deep respect for the historic track.

A circuit steeped in history and emotion

When asked about what makes Spa special and what he would miss if the circuit were to move to a rotational calendar after 2025, Beganovic was quick to highlight the track’s unique character and storied past.

“I think Spa is, I would say, a very similar characteristic to Imola, Monza, even Silverstone a bit. A track with a lot of history, the legend behind the track. And driving on these kind of tracks gives a very special feeling for me as a driver,” Beganovic explained.

The Swedish driver hasn’t been swayed by rumours about Spa’s future, expressing his hope that the circuit remains a permanent fixture on the F2 calendar. “I honestly haven’t heard about this rumour that it would be a rotation, but it would be a shame, I think. Because every year coming to Spa, it’s a special feeling. Doing the track walk also, it’s a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions.”

Beganovic’s connection to Spa runs deeper than just the racing. He spoke candidly about the emotional weight of visiting the circuit, particularly when passing the site of Anthoine Hubert’s and Dilano Van ‘t Hoff tragic accident from a few years ago.

“Obviously, passing by or walking by next to Antoine and Dilano’s tragic accident a couple of years ago. Giving a strange feeling in the stomach, but always thinking about them. And then driving the track is a very special feeling, an excitement that you don’t really get on many tracks on the calendar,” he reflected.

Despite the solemn moments, Beganovic’s enthusiasm for racing at Spa remains undimmed. “It’s a track I really enjoy driving. I’ve had the privilege to be driving here since regional and also won races in F3 and regional on this track.”

Building on a strong weekend in Silverstone

Beganovic enters the weekend with considerable confidence, particularly given his strong performance in wet conditions at Silverstone alongside teammate Luke Browning. When asked about how this recent success and his previous victories at Spa affect his mindset ahead of a potentially wet weekend, the driver was optimistic.

“Silverstone was very strong on Sunday for both of us [Teammate Luke Browning]. Even when we were running quite different, I think it was very positive. So going into this weekend with the chances of rain, like you said, brings extra confidence after Silverstone,” Beganovic noted.

However, he’s not resting on past achievements. Drawing from his experience of taking pole position at Spa last year, Beganovic believes he can be competitive regardless of the conditions.

“But in the end, also looking at the results from pole last year, taking a pole position, I think we can be confident going into this weekend in both conditions. It’s always that in-between in Spa, if it’s wet or dry, the damp part plays a big role. So anyway, I think looking at it as an opportunity and a challenge is where my mind is at the moment.”
