Ahead of the 2025 F3 Austrian GP, Callum Voisin spoke to media outlets including Pit Debrief. The Rodin Motorsport driver touched on many topics including the new Madring, performance from last year to this year, and reaction times.
The transition from Imola to Madring
From the 2026 season onwards, Imola has been replaced on the calendar by the newly created Madring. The Madring is a new street circuit through Madrid, adding a second Spanish Grand Prix to the calendar.
The new circuit is a high speed circuit, replacing the mix of fast and slow sections through Imola. Imola is an iconic venue that will be missed by fans and drivers alike. The switch from Imola has brought a whirlwind of opinions.
“I think the, is it called the Madring? I think it’s pretty exciting. I’ve seen a couple of onboards on the sim and stuff, and it looks pretty cool. It’s pretty high speed, quite fast street circuit, as you said. From that side, I think it’s quite a good thing. It’s nice for F2 and F3 to get the opportunity to go to new venues. I think that’s very important for us on our way up through the ladder.”
Voisin emphasises just how big the loss of Imola is. He comments on the overall atmosphere and support that the Italian circuit brings.
“However, I think Imola is quite a big loss. I think it’s a great track. The fans are amazing. I think it’s a bit of a shame. I’m glad that we’re going to the Madring, but at the same time, I’m quite sad that it’s over.”
The difference between this year and last with performance
When comparing Vision’s 2024 season to his 2025 one, he is currently performing far better this season. Not only does he hold a higher championship position now than he did at the conclusion of 2024, but his results have appeared earlier in the 2025 season than the 2024.
Voisin puts his 2025 success down to a few aspects, including his choice to remain with Rodin, as well as a confidence boost that came with more experience.
“Yeah, I mean, I think similar to Santiago, really, experience has played a big part. I think a lot of it has been about executing better with the team. I think last year we had a lot of pace quite early on, but we never quite executed as well as we should have.
“But, you know, I think just in general, working well with the team, I think we stayed in the same team, so, that’s a major component. But I still feel like, we’re, I’m not, I guess, where I should be.”
Split second reactions
Drivers across all categories of motorsport must host split second reaction times, this becomes increasingly important in single seaters, and crucial at a track like the Red Bull Ring. F3 in Austria has a history of hosting chaotic races, and this is where split second reactions become crucial.
Voisin offered the media including Pit Debrief, an insight into how drivers train and maintain their reaction times.
“I think, yeah, a lot of it is what the other two just said, is training. Obviously, we do a lot of training in the gym and whatnot. Cognitive is another one, but I think a big one for me has also been having a psychologist. I think that really helps.
“Just mentally, obviously, you’ve got the physical side, but the mental side is another one. Staying concentrated, staying in the right place mentally during the race. If something goes wrong or something, you’re in qualifying.”
Approach to Austria after not scoring last year
In 2024, Austria for F3 saw Voisin returning home without scoring points. F3 in Austria wasn’t the only round Voisin struggled, with many rounds not seeing points. This has not affected his mentality or approach, recognising last season was overall tough for himself. He holds confidence that he can change the story in 2025.
“If I’m being brutally honest, there’s not many tracks I scored points at last year. It doesn’t really change my approach. At the end of the day, I know I’ve done much better than last year, so I’m filled with confidence. No difference.”
Can the Rodin perform in Austria?
Following the Spanish Grand Prix and the mishaps that came with it for Voisin, he expressed his frustrations with the weekend. Despite this, he remains confident that the Red Bull Ring is a track that himself and Rodin Motorsport can perform well at.
Voisin is also confident that the successful performances can and will continue into Silverstone and the rest of the season.
“Yes, I definitely think so. I think everywhere I’ve performed, I think that pretty much the car has been pretty quick. The only one we struggled as a team with Barcelona, but even there, we weren’t horrendous.
“I definitely think it’s a track that we can perform at, and so is Silverstone, and so is the rest”
