Saturday’s Race 1 for F1 Academy in Singapore saw a new driver become victorious. After taking her maiden win yesterday, Lia Block will be looking to climb through the field from P8. Alongside Block was her teammate, Aurelia Nobels, starting from P7. The third row of the grid was locked out by Emma Felbermayr and Wild Card Entry Lisa Billard, in P6 and P5 respectively. The second row sat Ella Lloyd and Chloe Chambers, in P4 and P3 respectively.

The front row was locked out by the two drivers leading the Championship. Championship leader Doriane Pin started from P2, while the driver chasing her down, Maya Weug, started from Pole Position. Sitting 17 points behind Pin, Weug looks to make her move in the standings.

The temperature sat at 30°, with humidity increased to 67%, a large jump up from Saturday. The clouds looked as though rain was ready to fall.

Lights Out!

The green flag waved, all five lights went out, and the final F1 Academy Race of the weekend was underway. Pin led into turn one, with Weug right on her tail. Chambers, Lloyd, and Felberymayr opened up a three way battle. Lloyd came out ahead in P3, followed by Chambers then Felbermayr.

Pin and Weug broke away from the rest of the pack, giving themselves some room. Gademan made her way past Block to take P8. Crone took P16 from Ferreira simultaneously. Block locked her wheels into turn 14, lightly touching the wall. She managed to get going again, rejoining in P18.

After starting in last, Palmowski made her way to P12 by lap three. She sat on the rear of Ciconte, going around her in turn 13. Ciconte got the better run out of the corner and regained her position. Gademan began to apply hefty pressure on Billard for P7.

Palmowski went down the inside of Ciconte into turn one, running wide and dropping to P14. Bruce and Hausmann ran side by side, Hausmann coming out just ahead. Palmowski puts pressure on Bruce through turns 14 and 15, finally getting past to take P13.

Pin’s engineer reported drops of rain in turns 9 through to 14. Chambers sat on the rear of Lloyd, applying pressure into turn one. Palmowski applied pressure on Hausmann on the run into turn 10, unable to find a way past until turn 14. Gademan finally made her way past Billard also, to take P7.

Palmowski’s engineer reported big rains to be expected in following laps. The leading two created large gaps by lap seven, Weug 4.5s ahead of Lloyd, with Pin a further 1.8s ahead of her. Chambers struggled to stick to Lloyd’s rear, and to find a way past.

7 laps left in Race 2

Lap eight began marking the halfway point. Chambers gained on Lloyd through the first three turns, although unable to get past. Palmowski got a great run on Chong, narrowly missing the opportunity to get past. The went side by side into turn 16, Palmowski getting ahead for P10. Her focus shifted to Billard ahead.

Chong aggressively defended against Ciconte, her defence ineffective as Ciconte made her way past. Ran began to fall quite heavily. While the top nine did not pit for wet tyres, Palmowski was called in the pits. She was the only driver to box, other than Block.

Safety Car period

Chambers sat on the rear of Lloyd again, running off and losing her time on Lloyd. A Yellow Flag waved prior to a Safety Car being released, as Havrda met the wall after losing control. Chambers, Nobels, Billard, and Hausmann boxed. Hausmann stalled in the pit lane, fortunately enough, she was able to restart the car.

Weug was told to stay on track, under the belief that they won’t be able to recover the time they would lose by stopping. The Safety Car retreated to the pit lane at the conclusion of lap 13. The top 10 are on slicks, with the rest of the field on wet tyres.

Pin managed the restart, Weug sticking with her. Larsen attempted a move on Felbermayr down the inside of turn one, not making it past. Weug dove around Pin to take the lead. Pin bit back, unable to regain the lead. Larsen and Gademan took part in a back and forth battle. Larsen ultimately remained ahead.

The chequered flag came into view, with Weug charging towards it with Pin behind her. Lloyd followed them to take the final podium place. The Championship battle will continue into the final round in Las Vegas. Therefore, a mere nine points now seperate Pin and Weug.
