Early Running in FP2 at the F1 Austrian GP

FP2 at the F1 Austrian GP began with Franco Colapinto leading the charge. He set the first benchmark lap of 1:08.158. Liam Lawson reported a steering wheel problem early on. He claimed on radio that if he “lets go of the steering it goes hard right.”

Mercedes showed early promise in the session. Antonelli and Russell held the top two positions initially. Their fast lap attempts put them ahead after five minutes.

Charles Leclerc went off track with 44 minutes remaining. He rejoined after turn 7 and immediately returned to the pits.

The stewards noted a small incident between Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli. Hamilton was on a slow lap. He wasn’t warned about Antonelli approaching on a fast lap. The young Italian took late avoiding action. He went past the Ferrari on the dirty run-off area.

Bouncing was a big issue during the practice session. Alonso reported too much bouncing on radio. Kimi Antonelli bounced over the curb on turn 1. The Williams duo also complained about their balance. The teams have some work to do.

Late into the session Gasly reported something being broken with the car. FP2 drew to a close with the chequered flag ending Friday running.
