Formula 2 held its first-ever Miami GP Qualifying session, with championship leader Nikola Tsolov taking Sprint Race pole after a competitive and largely controlled session. Tsolov entered the weekend on top of the standings following his Feature Race victory in Melbourne, where he finished ahead of Gabriel Câmara and Laurens van Hoepen. Despite Campos Racing facing early setbacks in FP1, when both Tsolov and teammate Mari Boya retired early due to technical issues, the Bulgarian driver recovered strongly when it mattered most.
The session began slowly as drivers built pace through their initial runs. Câmara showed early promise with a strong first sector but could only manage a 1:40.441 lap after losing time in the remaining sectors. As the track evolved, the fight at the top intensified, with Tsolov, Richard Verschoor Mini, and Kush Maini all cycling through competitive positions.
Maini delivered a key performance for ART Grand Prix by becoming the first driver to break into the 1:39s, setting a new benchmark for the field. Meanwhile, Colton Herta, who had topped FP1 for Hitech, struggled to replicate that form in Qualifying. He ran wide at Turn 17 and later over the kerbs, disrupting his flying laps and limiting his progress.
The session remained uninterrupted for most of its duration, but a late incident with Martinius Stenshorne changed the outcome. His Rodin Motorsport car stopped on track with under two minutes remaining, bringing out a yellow flag that stopped several drivers from improving their times.
As a result, Tsolov secured Sprint pole position, while Maini claimed P1 for the Feature Race. Meanwhile, PREMA endured a difficult outing with both drivers set to start near the back, while Bilinski and Shields are set to occupy the final grid positions.
