After this morning’s Practice session, Victor Martins secured the Aramco Pole Position in the 2025 F2 Qualifying session for the British GP.

The second half of the season is well underway at Silverstone with Round 8 of the 2025 FIA F2 campaign. Earlier today, we saw Victor Martins top the times, with Luke Browning and Jak Crawford to follow in the one and only Free Practice session for the F2 grid. We now cast our eyes to the F2 Qualifying session at the British GP. Verschoor currently leads the championship with 104 points, with Dunne following in P2 with 90 points.

It has been a special home race weekend for Arvid Lindblad, as he just had his first run out in Formula 1 in Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull. Lindblad currently sits in P6, and will be hoping for a strong Qualifying result to set him up for the remainder of the weekend.

The F2 Qualifying session for the British GP will be crucial ahead of the unpredictable weather on Saturday and Sunday, with there currently the chance of rain on both days. The weather changes quite quickly at Silverstone, so driver adaptability will be key.

It’s lights out at Silverstone for the F2 Qualifying session

With 30 minutes on the clock in Qualifying, the drivers were pushed to their absolute limits. The Sprint Race on Saturday will cover 21 laps, and the Feature Race on Sunday is set to be 29 laps. The grid headed out on the soft compound, in attempts to extract the most out of their respective vehicles.

The earlier Free Practice session was close, so it was guaranteed that Qualifying would be just as competitive. The wind had picked up between the two sessions, with the tailwind coming in from Copse corner catching the drivers off guard in Qualifying.

Crawford headed out for his first push lap of the F2 Qualifying session, having shown dominance in Sectors 1 and 2 during Practice but previously losing time in the final sector. This time, he posted a 1:41.108. However, Montoya quickly knocked him off P1, followed by a series of other drivers as track evolution kicked in and lap times continued to tumble throughout the session.

Martins was the next driver to go quickest, topping the timesheets with a 1:40.710, followed by Verschoor in P2 and Crawford in P3. As more drivers put in their laps, the leader board continued to shift, but many saw their times deleted for exceeding track limits, making consistency just as crucial as outright pace.

Esterson spun out, causing flat spots on his tyres and rendering them useless for another flying lap.

Miyata appeared to have an issue with his ART Grand Prix car, as he sat dormant in the pit lane with his engineers working on his car.

Meguetounif went airborne in turn 1 with the increase of wind, catching the driver off guard.

RED FLAG

Cordeel, who was sitting in P5, spun out at the end of the final corner, causing a red flag as all cars returned to the pit lane. He was ruled out of the remainder of Qualifying, with his fastest time also deleted. With 18 minutes still left of Qualifying, the drivers eagerly awaited the restart as the marshalled pushed the vehicle off track.

Esterson, Meguetounif, Maini, Mini and Miyata were still yet to have Qualifying times set, with either their previous flying laps deleted or not setting times.

Green flags again for Qualifying

Miyata took to the track for the first time in Qualifying, but he only set out on the one lap before returning back to the pit lane again.

Dunne was next to set out on a flying lap, eager to improve on his P12. He went purple in sector two, coming across the line with an improvement and into P3. There was less than 1 tenth of a second separating P1 to P3. Dunne remained on track for a cooldown lap, with only Maini occupying the track with him.

With 12 minutes on the clock, the remainder of the grid headed out for their second stint in Qualifying.

10 minutes remaining of the F2 British GP Qualifying session

Miyata retired from the Qualifying session, after not setting a time. With 10 minutes on the clock, Martins was still leading the F2 British GP Qualifying session, with Verschoor in P2 and Dunne in P3.

Crawford set out on a flying lap, setting purple across all sectors and bringing in a time of 1:39.971. It appeared that the track was continuing to improve, with the drivers jumping up positions as the times continued to roll in. Martins took back his P1, with Dunne wedging himself between Crawford and Martins.

Minì lost his second lap time, after losing his earlier time in the Qualifying session due to track limits. Fornaroli went wide and dipped his tyres into the gravel.

Minì headed out to set a time but could only manage P16. Fornaroli followed and improved on his previous lap, crossing the line in P10. This was just enough to knock Lindblad off provisional reverse-grid pole for Saturday’s Sprint Race. As a result, Fornaroli will start from the front row alongside Maini.

Martins secured his second pole position of the season, with Dunne, Crawford, Stanek, and Montoya rounding out the top five. Hometown favourites Browning and Lindblad, however, finished outside the top 10.
