Victor Martins, a 23-year-old Frenchman is in his third season of Formula 2. Throughout his time in F2, he has remained with ART Grand Prix, also winning his F3 Champsionship with the team.

After finishing the 2023 and 2024 season in 5th and 7th respectively, he currently sits 8th in the standings. The Frenchman has scored points in each round of the season, excluding Monaco, accumulating to a total of 41 points.

Round 1 in Melbourne

Despite a few minor incidents within the Melbourne Qualifying session, Martins went second fastest. Promoted to a pole position start in the Sprint Race, a positive soon turned negative, when spun into the gravel. This ended Martins’ race, resulting in a DNF.

The Feature Race was cancelled due to the wild weather, though the drivers were lined up, and had a few laps before the race was cancelled. This meant Martins was awarded two points, while no one else gained any.

Round 2 in Bahrain

Martins secured himself another P2 start after the Bahrain Qualifying session, narrowly denied pole by one and a half tenths of a second. Off the start of the Sprint Race, Martins was ran wide by Dunne, ending off the track, with brief yellow flags. After having his front wing replaced, he went on to finish P15.

Major wheel spin on the start of the Feature Race saw the Frenchman instantly dropping to P6. An early pit stop was thought to be disastrous, before proving to be mastery, when he rose back to podium contention. Martins crossed the finish line P5.

Round 3 in Saudi Arabia

In the final moments of the F2 Jeddah Qualifying session, Martins was knocked off his pole sitting perch, having to settle for P2. Battling from P10 in the Sprint Race, Martins secured a promotion to P8 by the chequered flag. The Feature Race was largely spent battling with pole sitter Jack Crawford. Neither driver took the win, Martins settling for P3.

Rounds 4, 5, and 6 – The Triple Header

The triple header consisted of three rounds; Imola, Monaco, and Spain. Starting from P8 in the Imola Sprint Race, Martins managed a climb to P4, while his P3 start in the Feature Race saw a P12 finish after stalling.

Setting the fastest time of the Group A Qualifying session in Monaco, Martins’ time was worthy of an overall P2 start. An unexpected pit stop in the Sprint Race saw Martins fixing wing damage, coming home P17. The Feature Race saw all hell break loose for Martins. Starting from P2, Martins got an ideal start, looking as though he would lead through Sainte Devote. Once Dunne and himself reached Sainte Devote, Dunne locked up, pinning the Frenchman into the outer barrier of Sainte Devote.

A tough Spanish Qualifying session left Martins with a P15 result, less than desirable for the Frenchman. In a fight to the finish line, Martins took an incredible recovery drive up to P6, gaining 9 positions throughout the Sprint Race. In yet another recovery effort, Martins took his ART Grand Prix machinery up to P8.

A hit or a miss?

The first six rounds of the 2025 F2 season, have been incredibly up and down for Victor Martins. The Frenchman’s rollercoaster of a season start has had a wide variety of DNFs, points finishes, and out of points finishes.

Ahead of Austria at the end of June, we can only presume that Martins will be head down, preparing for a positive round. Sitting top 10 in the Championship standings, for both drivers and teams remains a major positive for his and ART Grand Prix’s seasons. Should he continue on with point scoring finishes, we can expect to see an increase in his Championship Standings.
