The 2025 F3 Sprint Race at the Hungarian GP has not only delivered thrilling on-track action but has also significantly shaken up the championship standings. With just one race left this weekend—and two rounds in total remaining—Rafael Camâra’s commanding consistency has positioned him firmly within reach of the F3 title.

Camâra strengthens his grip on the F3 Championship

Championship leader Rafael Camâra increased his tally from 126 to 129 points following his eighth-place finish in the Sprint Race, collecting a valuable single point. While the Brazilian did not reach the podium in the Sprint, his performance—combined with low-scoring results from his closest rivals—further extended his advantage.

Most critically, Camâra’s direct title challengers failed to make meaningful progress in the standings. Nikola Tsolov, second in the championship prior to the Sprint, added no points to his total and remains on 98. Tim Tramnitz, just behind him, also failed to score and stays on 93. This means Camâra now holds a 31-point lead over Tsolov and a 36-point cushion over Tramnitz heading into Sunday’s Feature Race.

Boya closes in on the top three

While the top three remain unchanged, Mari Boya capitalised on his strong Sprint Race showing. Finishing seventh, Boya collected six points and moved from 85 to 89—narrowing the gap to Tramnitz in third to just four points. With the Spaniard starting alongside Camâra on the front row of the Feature Race, he will be eyeing a podium finish or better to further climb the standings.

Midfield shake-up and notable risers

Elsewhere, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak’s second victory of the season delivered 10 points, pushing him up bringing his tally up to 48 points—matching Van Hoepen, Ramos, and Voisin. Meanwhile, Ugo Ugochukwu’s runner-up finish saw him level with Charlie Wurz on 41 points.

Brando Badoer also scored his first significant haul of the season, finishing sixth and bringing his season total to 7 points, up from 2. James Hedley’s strong run to fourth gave him his first points of the campaign, placing him in 25th with 7 points.

Matías Zagazeta, despite crossing the line ahead of several rivals, was demoted due to a time penalty and remains on 6 points. Gerrard Xie scored his maiden point by finishing 10th after adjustments to the classification.

Camâra’s title scenario: What he needs on Sunday

With 28 points available in Sunday’s F3 Feature Race at the Hungarian GP—including 25 for the win, 1 for fastest lap, and 2 already awarded for pole position—Camâra enters the race in a strong position. Currently 31 points ahead of Tsolov, to clinch the title tomorrow, Camâra must leave the Hungarian GP at least 40 points ahead of Tsolov. Here is what needs to happen:

  • If Camâra wins (25 pts, total 154), Tsolov would need to finish second (18 pts) and set the fastest lap (1 pt) to keep the title fight alive. Anything less than that, and Camâra is champion.
  • If Camâra finishes second (18 pts, total 147) and Tsolov finishes lower than P1 with no fastest lap, Camâra secures the crown.
  • If Camâra fails to score, Tsolov would need at least 10 points (P5) to stay in mathematical contention, and even that would leave the Brazilian with a 129–108 lead, putting Camâra just one point shy of sealing the title.

Given Camâra’s form, pole advantage, and his rivals’ inconsistent results, the odds now heavily favour the Brazilian. A podium or even a top-five finish could be enough to crown him FIA F3 Champion with one round to spare.

A potential Championship decider

As the grid prepares for Sunday’s Feature Race, Rafael Camâra stands on the verge of F3 history. Should the Brazilian convert his pole into a strong result, the championship could be decided at the Hungaroring. However, with multiple drivers still capable of influencing the title fight, the battle promises to be intense. The equation is now simple: 28 points on the table, and one title within touching distance.
