News has broken out of AIX Racing, after James Hedley was forced to withdraw from Monaco’s Feature Race. Hedley will be replace by Jose Garfias for Round 5 in Barcelona only, after Hedley’s hand injury rules him out of another race.
F3 team, AIX Racing announced Garfias to be temporarily filling Hedley’s seat via social media on Wednesday.
During the F3 Sprint Race in Monaco last weekend, AIX’s James Hedley sustained an injury to his wrist. The Brit collided with Ivan Domingues before Portier, consquently ruling him out of the Feature Race the following day.
Garfias debuting at a familiar circuit
Garfias is a 20-year-old from Mexico, who has raced single seaters since 2018. He has competed across GB3, Formula Regional – Middle Eastern and European Championships, and the Eurocup-3. The Mexican’s most recent appearance was in the Euroformula Open Championship.
Garfias has rapport with AIX Racing, after taking part in the 2024 post-season tests with them. These tests took place in Jerez and Barcelona, giving him valuable experience ahead of a big challange this weekend.
When asked about his F3 AIX Racing debut, Garfias stated:
“Very happy to be making my FIA F3 debut this weekend! Big thanks to everyone who made it possible. I will make the most out of this great opportunity.
“I am ready for the challenge, it’s great to be working with AIX Racing for this one, happy to be with them once again. Can’t wait to get started!”
Across the Mexican driver’s 79 career starts, he has landed himself on the podium 13 times, with a single pole position to his name. Garfias has shown great potential across his single seater career, and has already had a chance to test the AIX machinery. His experience, alongside his laps in the AIX cars around the circuit he will be making his F3 debut at, gives him a chance to try and get amongst it in a congested field.
