It‘s the first ever Formula E double-header in the history of the Monaco E-Prix, as FP2 in the principality went underway. Dan Ticktum of Cupra Kiro set the fastest time of the session, with Andretti’s Jake Dennis taking P2 and Edoardo Mortara completing the Top 3.
Ticktum already led the way in the early morning session, just ahead of Pascal Wehrlein und Nyck de Vries.
Green light for second practice
Green light has been displayed at the end of the pit lane, with the final 30-minute session now underway. Nick Cassidy in the Jaguar up front out on track. Reigning champion Wehrlein took the lead with a 1:29.592, as preparations are underway for the actual flying laps.
Due to the limited time, there is no place for mistakes that could end important runs which provide needed data ahead of Qualifying and Race 1 later. Times are starting to get quicker, as the tyres are also starting to get into the working window.
Sam Bird was the first driver to set a representative lap time with a 1:27.964 despite going slightly sideways when going down the hill after the tunnel. The first few laps with 350kw power are now starting to get underway, with Wehrlein beating Bird by 0.684 seconds. Oliver Rowland then took the lead.
Halfway through the session
15 minutes to go, and over half of the grid is in the pit lane for new tyres, set-up adjustments and a quick charge. And Dan Ticktum now took the lead, being the first in the 1:26’s. David Beckman had quite a lot of understeer going into Turn 12, nearly touching the wall. He improved nonetheless.
Jake Hughes made a mistake, as he went straight at Turn 1, DS Penske’s Jean-Eric Vergne did the same few minutes later. Rowland complained about understeer in the high-speed on his 350kw-runs. Edoardo Mortara improved into the P3 before the session end.
FP2 in Monaco is over, and in a few hours qualifying for Race 1 will take place. Tune in!
