After a season away, Formula E is back racing in Jakarta, Indonesia, and to start off the Jakarta E-Prix weekend, the drivers geared up for FP1, on a hot and humid circuit.

Season 9 saw Formula E previously race in Jakarta, where Pascal Wehrlein stood on the top step of the podium. Maximilian Günther, who took pole position for both races, was the German driver who won race 2.

Lights out!

The FP1 session in Jakarta was underway, with drivers eager to test their cars out in the boiling weather. Mitch Evans was the first driver to set the fastest time. Evans hasn’t had an easy season so far, but he has won in Jakarta before. Additionally, his teammate, Nick Cassidy took the win in the second race of the Shanghai E-Prix.

The Jaguar duo seemed to find their pace, but Evans broke into a new bracket, setting a new fast lap of 1:08.827.

Red flag

The session was flagged after Robin Frijns collided with the wall, running on at Turn 7. His Envision machinery, got unsettled in the run-up to Turn 7, and was pushed into the outside wall, steering him into the barriers. With the red flag, more time was added to the session.

Green flag

The track was cleared, and the session back on. Edoardo Mortara quickly topped the time sheets, but there was a revolving door of drivers in the top spot, as they warmed up to the track.

Rookie Zane Maloney also made an appearance at the top of the driver. If the Lola Yamaha ABT driver plays his cards right, he could score his first points in Formula E, after showing promise in recent races.

Pascal Wehrlein showed his experience as a past winner, propelling to the top, but Jake Dennis went faster with a 1:06.980. Sebastien Buemi went for a spin. He Briefly lost the rear of his car, touching a dirty part of the track. After his mistake, he finished a clean lap, sliding in fifth.

Günther shows pace

Previous winner Maximilian Günther found pace in the last couple of sectors and topped the timesheets. However, Evans went for more flying laps, improved his personal best and took the top slot.

Oliver Rowland steadily moved into the top five, but crashed when he lost the rear of his Nissan and spun into the wall.

The final stages of the Formula E FP1 session in Jakarta were underway and Wehrlein improved, but made a mistake in the final corner. The German driver aborted his lap, and found himself 18th.

Günther finished FP1 in P1, making him a driver to watch out for. He was followed by António Félix Da Costa and Mortara. Despite his crash, Rowland finished FP1 in fourth, with Nico Müller just behind.
