Season 11 of Formula E is coming to an end, as we arrive for the season finale – the London E-Prix, with FP1 kicking off the on-track action. Former champion Pascal Wehrlein has set the quickest time of the day, with Jake Dennis taking second place. Nick Cassidy rounds off the Top 3.
It’s green light to kick off FP1
The green light has been displayed at the end of the pit lane and the drivers make their way out on track. Nick Cassidy, who is leaving Jaguar at the end of the season, leads the field out. As the drivers went on for their out laps, the full course yellow has been deployed as a test and then removed again.
The first half-representative lap times of 1:19’s were done, before Di Grassi for Lola lapped a 1:17.0. Wehrlein for example was told to do one more out lap before he did a double push. Meanwhile, we already arrived in the 1:12 lap times, before Ticktum breached the walls to a 1:11 lap.
With 28 minutes to go, yellow flags have been waved due to Di Grassi stopping between Turn 18 and 19, after running over a vertical bump. Therefore, race direction red flagged the session, but tried to keep the duration low, giving the other drivers the chance to go faster than 50km/h.
Halfway through the session
It’s 20 minutes into the session and the session has been green flagged again and also extended by eight minutes. Rowland immediately went straight and had to use the escape road at Turn 10. He was then told to do two push laps and one cool and again.
In the meantime, Frijns has improved to a 1:10.7 before Cassidy beat him with a 1:10.4. Evans then took first with 1:09.9. Meanwhile, Dennis is under investigation for a pit boost infraction. Di Grassi says there was a compression when hitting the bump and after a quick check the Lola car was back on track.
The lap time continued to get quicker, with now Evans on top with a 1:08.5. With 15 minutes to go, drivers started to get back to the garage to do some more modifications.
10 minutes to go
We are going into the final moments, with Evans remained in the lead. However, his teammate Cassidy was able to beat it before a second red flag was deployed. Again, it was Di Grassi, who did a couple of laps before coming to a stop at Turn 17. It’s a replica to what he experienced before. He believes it’s a sensor issue and wants it to be shut.
With 4 minutes to go, the green flag was waved again. Wehrlein was a strong lap but was heavily blocked by Cassidy at Turn 20. Race direction also reported, to keep up some decent pace through that session to not impede other drivers. Cassidy was given a black and white flag, as a yellow flag deployed for Di Grassi at Turn 18 again, as the Lola stopped a third time.
Wehrlein set the fastest lap of the session anyways.
