Fred Green has moved another step closer to winning the 2026 George Russell Pole Position Cup after claiming his fourth GB4 pole position of the season at Silverstone.
The Elite Motorsport driver secured pole for Race 2 through his second-fastest Qualifying lap, while Fortec Motorsport’s Thomas Ingram Hill claimed his maiden GB4 pole for Race 1 after setting the fastest outright time.
Both drivers collected £150 and a trophy for their Silverstone poles. However, Green now holds a commanding advantage in the season-long competition and could guarantee himself the £1,000 end-of-year prize at the next round at Snetterton.
Green extends Pole Position Cup advantage
Green arrived at Silverstone already leading the George Russell Pole Position Cup and strengthened his position during Qualifying.
Ingram Hill produced the fastest outright lap to secure his first championship pole and lead the Race 1 grid. Green, meanwhile, delivered the strongest second-best lap and therefore earned pole for Race 2.
The result moved Green onto four poles for the season, three clear of every other driver to have secured a top starting position.
Alex O’Grady, Luke Hilton and Demitri Nolan each remain on one pole, while Ingram Hill joined them after his Silverstone breakthrough.
Snetterton presents opportunity to seal £1,000 prize
Green could secure the Pole Position Cup before the final two rounds if he dominates Qualifying at Snetterton.
Should the Elite Motorsport driver claim both available poles at the next event, he would move to six for the season. That total would guarantee him the 2026 George Russell Pole Position Cup regardless of what happens during the remaining two race weekends.
The driver who finishes the season with the most poles will receive the trophy alongside an additional £1,000 prize.
Furthermore, the winning driver’s team will receive the David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup and another £1,000 prize. Green’s current advantage therefore places Elite Motorsport in a strong position to secure both awards.
Ingram Hill joins list of 2026 polesitters
Although Green strengthened his championship position, Ingram Hill also reached an important milestone at Silverstone.
The Fortec Motorsport driver secured his first GB4 pole position by setting the fastest Qualifying lap and therefore started Race 1 from the front.
His race did not deliver the result he wanted after contact with Green disrupted both drivers’ opening contest. However, Ingram Hill responded strongly on Sunday by winning Race 2 and finishing third in the amended Race 3 classification.
His Qualifying performance also made him the fifth different driver to earn a pole position during the 2026 season.
Cavill continues support through Pole Position Cup awards
John Cavill presents the Pole Position Cup awards at each GB4 round.
Cavill has supported drivers competing in MotorSport Vision championships since 2013 and has also backed numerous competitors who later progressed into prominent positions within motorsport.
Through the George Russell Pole Position Cup, each polesitter receives £150 and a trophy during the season. The competition then adds the £1,000 end-of-year award for the driver who records the highest number of poles.
The corresponding David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup also rewards the successful driver’s team with £1,000.

Green heads to Snetterton with chance to wrap up Cup
Green will therefore arrive at Snetterton with an opportunity to settle the Pole Position Cup battle well before the end of the GB4 season.
His fourth pole at Silverstone gave him a three-pole advantage over O’Grady, Hilton, Nolan and Ingram Hill. While each remains mathematically capable of challenging, Green can remove that possibility by claiming both poles at the next round.
Silverstone also demonstrated that his rivals can still disrupt that pursuit, with Ingram Hill becoming the latest driver to take a pole away from the Elite Motorsport contender.
Nevertheless, Green controls the competition heading into Snetterton. A perfect Qualifying performance there would secure both the George Russell Pole Position Cup and its £1,000 prize with two events still remaining.
