During the 2025 F1 Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton and his Ferrari race engineer, Riccardo Adami, had a miscommunication over the Ferrari team radio regarding their strategies. After witnessing the tense communication between the two, the media speculated that Hamilton has not been getting on well with Adami and has been experiencing a rift since he joined Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton shut down the false claims and explained his dynamics with Adami.

Radio problems caused the tension during the Monaco F1 race between Adami and Hamilton

Hamilton elaborated that there was radio traffic during the Monaco race, which prevented him from receiving enough and critical information about the gaps on track. This created tension between Hamilton and Adami. At the end of the race, he asked Adami whether he was “upset” with him, but left without an answer.

Though radio problems caused the tension, Hamilton spoke with Adami about the situation afterwards.

“There was areas that we just had radio problems through the race. I didn’t get all the information that I wanted, but we spoke afterwards.”

No problems between Hamilton and Adami

Before heading to the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, 7-time world champion clarified that the speculations could not be any further from reality and stated that his relationship with Adami is simply “great.”

The Briton remarked that they are still learning more each day about how to adapt their working styles. He said that this doesn’t mean they have problems with each other.

“There’s a lot of speculation. Most of it is BS.

“Our relationship is great. No problems. We’re constantly learning more and more about each other.

“We’re constantly adapting to the way both of us like to work. He’s worked with lots of different drivers before. We don’t have any problems whatsoever.”

Both work hard to lift the team up

Hamilton praised Adami for being amazing to work with and for dedicating himself to the team. Adami previously worked with Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz at Ferrari.

Hamilton emphasized that disagreements between a driver and their race engineer were normal, just like any other relationship. He stated that though the team does not get it right every weekend, which creates disagreement, what is important is to work through them, which they accomplish. According to the Briton, any other interpretation of their relationship was “just noise” and does not reflect reality.

7-time world champion noted that Adami wants to win a championship for Ferrari as much as he does, and they are in this together. They are both committing themselves to lifting the team.

“Ultimately, we have a great relationship. He’s been amazing to work with. He’s a great guy, working so hard. We both are.

“We don’t always get it right every weekend. Do we have disagreements? Like everyone does in relationships, but we work through them.

“We’re both in it together. We both want to win a championship together. We’re both working towards lifting the team up.

“It’s just all noise, and we don’t really pay any attention to it. It can continue if you want, but it doesn’t make any difference to the job that we’re trying to do.”
