Heavy crash in FP3: Di Grassi won’t take part in Formula E qualifying of Berlin E-Prix

Lucas di Grassi crashed when arriving slightly too quick into T2 behind teammate Zane Maloney, during FP3 of the Berlin E-Prix. The incident put an end to the Formula E session, as the car needed to be recovered and repairs to the barrier were carried out.

Speaking to e-Formel.de, team principal Thomas Biermaier has confirmed that there is no chance for Di Grassi to compete in qualifying. However, Lola hopes to get the car of the Brazilian ready for the second race in the German capital. The portal was told that the team has to change the monocoque.

Pit Debrief understands, that there was no software issue during the crash. So when Di Grassi arrived in the corner, his GEN3EVO machinery didn’t accelerate by itself.

How the weather looks like at the moment

Qualifying for Race 2 in Berlin seems to go ahead in the dry. However, the concrete tarmac of the Tempelhof Airfield Street Circuit looks to be damp.
