Van Amersfoort Racing have confirmed that Santiago Ramos will not compete in the final round of the 2025 Formula 3 season at Monza. The Mexican driver brings his sophomore campaign in the series—and his first season with Van Amersfoort—to an early conclusion. His absence leaves a gap on the grid and alters the competitive dynamics heading into the season finale, where several drivers will be fighting for crucial points and improved championship positions.

A season of highs and lows

Ramos produced several notable highlights during the 2025 F3 season. He claimed his first Sprint Race victory in Melbourne, showing his ability to perform under pressure and in challenging conditions. He followed this achievement with a maiden Feature Race win at Imola, demonstrating both speed and strategic awareness. In Barcelona, Ramos earned his fourth F2 career podium and added points with an eighth-place finish in Silverstone. These successes emphasised his potential and confirmed that he can compete at the sharp end of the grid when circumstances align.

However, Ramos struggled to maintain consistency throughout the season. Three retirements and ten points-less finishes hindered his progress and prevented him from sustaining momentum across multiple rounds. While he delivered strong performances on occasion, he fell short of the steady campaign he had hoped to achieve at the start of the year.

A small improvement from 2025

With 48 points, Ramos finishes the 2025 F3 season 14th in the championship, though he may drop down the order depending on the results of the Monza Round. By comparison, Theophile Nael sits seventh with 70 points, while Ivan Domingues occupies 19th place with 18 points. The tight margins separating drivers and teams mean that the final round at Monza could still influence the overall standings and potentially affect Ramos’ final position. In his 2024 rookie season with Trident, Ramos finished 16th with 44 points, marking modest progress while highlighting the challenges of achieving consistent results in the series.

James Hedley to pilot the #6 car in Monza

With a potential third-place finish in the Teams’ Championship still on the cards, Van Amersfoort Racing have turned to James Hedley to complete their line-up for the 2025 F3 season finale in Monza. Just last week, AIX Racing announced Fernando Barrichello as Hedley’s replacement for the Monza finale and their second driver to join the team’s 2026 lineup.

In 2025, Hedley has taken part in six rounds this season, with only a single point-scoring finish to his name. In a statement released by Van Amersfoort Racing, Hedley said: “Super happy to be continuing racing this weekend at Monza. I want to thank VAR very much for this last-minute opportunity. Also long time personal sponsors Clive Emson Auctioneers and everyone else who have supported me very generously. Couldn’t ask for a better birthday present.”

Team Principal Brad Joyce added: “We’re pleased to welcome James to the team for the final round at Monza. With prior race experience in the category and the clear potential we’ve seen from him, we expect he will adapt quickly to our environment. This weekend is a valuable opportunity for him to build on his time in FIA Formula 3, while for us it’s a chance to support him in making the most of it. We’re looking forward to working with him and are confident that he will make a positive impression.”
