Earlier in the day Alex Palou beat David Malukas to pole position. Felix Rosenqvist crashed in qualifying. Colton Herta had a remarkable save following a big spin and slide.

Santino Ferrucci cops a 20-minute penalty

Heading into the 1-hour long session, Santino Ferrucci knew he would miss the final 20 minutes. A bizarre incident unfolded on pit road during the low-line session.

As he went to exit his box, he clipped the car of Devlin DeFrancesco. The RLL machine sustained significant damage on the right rear corner.

Unfortunately for DeFrancesco, he only hit the track with less than 15 minutes to go.

Robb crashes

Right at the end of the session, Sting Ray Robb got high and hit the wall at turn 2. The caution was thrown to end the action a minute sooner than expected.

Scott Dixon leads the way

Six-time champion Scott Dixon put in a strong late lap to lead the way as he did a 156.712mph lap. David Malukas was rapid once again with P2. Nolan Siegel completed the top 3.

Although he will only start P7 on Sunday after penalties, Josef Newgarden is expected to be a strong contender for the win. He was P4, ahead of Armstrong, Palou, Daly, O’Ward, VeeKay and Rahal.

Felix Rosenqvist was last on the chart but got a critical 28 laps in after crashing in qualifying. He starts last tomorrow. Expect plenty of fireworks from him and Colton Herta.
