Jaguar TCS Racing arrives at the Mexico City E-Prix weekend, determined to convert strong performance into Formula E championship points after a frustrating season opener in São Paulo, where both drivers showed competitive pace but on-track incidents denied them results.
Driving the Jaguar I‑TYPE 7, António Félix da Costa and Mitch Evans both demonstrated the car’s potential during the Brazilian round, but circumstances conspired to rob the team of the points finish their speed deserved.
Evans relishes return to fan-favourite venue
Evans, who returns to one of the calendar’s most popular venues, remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. “São Paulo was a challenging opener, but it was great to be back racing and to feel the competitiveness of the Jaguar I‑TYPE 7,” he said. “Now all eyes are on Mexico City ‑ it’s one of everyone’s favourite locations on the calendar. The atmosphere there is second to none, with incredible fans and a circuit that always delivers exciting racing. I can’t wait to get back out and push for a strong result.”
Da Costa takes positives from challenging debut
For Da Costa, the São Paulo round marked his debut with Jaguar TCS Racing, and whilst the result didn’t materialise, the Portuguese driver draws encouragement from the underlying performance, heading into the Mexico City E-Prix. “São Paulo was a tough way to start my journey with Jaguar TCS Racing, especially as we had the pace to fight for the podium,” he reflected. “Circumstances went against us, but the positives are clear – we were strong in qualifying and had great pace in the race. That gives me confidence heading into Mexico. I’m excited to get back in the car, push hard, and hopefully turn that performance into some points for the team.”
Team resets focus on Mexico challenge
Team Principal Ian James acknowledged both the promise and the challenges that characterise Formula E competition. “Round one reminded us of two things: the strong potential of our car and the unpredictability that defines Formula E,” he said. “That combination is what makes this championship so compelling. As a team, we’ve reset quickly and are focused on Mexico City, where we’ll look to convert our pace into points. It’s a venue that always showcases the very best of Formula E, and we’re ready to take on the challenge.”
