Italian outfit BVM Racing has confirmed Javier Herrera as the first driver in its line-up for the upcoming 2026 Euroformula Open season.
The Ravenna-based team, led by Giuseppe Mazzotti, plans to field a three-car entry in the championship. By announcing Herrera as its first signing, the team signals its intention to remain a strong presence in the series.
BVM targets another competitive season
BVM Racing heads into the new campaign with confidence after a strong showing in the previous season. The team guided Tymek Kucharczyk through a competitive year in the championship, reinforcing its reputation as one of the established teams in the paddock.
With a three-car programme confirmed for the coming season, the Italian squad aims to build on that momentum. The signing of Herrera represents the first step in shaping its driver roster for the year ahead.
Herrera, a rising talent from Monterrey, set to join BVM Racing for 2026 Euroformula Open
Herrera, a 16-year-old driver from Monterrey, has already built an impressive foundation during his young career. The Mexican racer began karting in 2017 and quickly developed into a competitive driver across several championships in the Americas.
During his karting years, Herrera secured the RMC Mexico Championship titles in Micro Swift in 2020 and Junior Max in 2022. He also finished third in the Mexican SKUSA Championship in the X30 Junior category during the same year.
After competing mainly in Europe during 2023, Herrera continued racing in karting until 2024 before transitioning to single-seater competition. He made his single-seater debut in late 2024 testing Formula 4 machinery before entering competitive racing in 2025. He initially joined Jenzer Motorsport for the final round of the Formula Winter Series at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Later in the year, Herrera contested the Formula 4 CEZ Championship, where he produced an impressive rookie campaign. He secured three race victories and finished third overall with 189 points, earning the title of best rookie in the championship.
In addition, Herrera made appearances in both the Italian F4 Championship and the E4 Championship, gaining valuable experience on several European circuits.
Following his promising Formula 4 season, Herrera now steps up to Euroformula Open with BVM Racing. The young driver has already completed extensive testing with the team over recent months, and those sessions reportedly produced encouraging results.
The testing programme allowed Herrera to familiarise himself with the higher-performance machinery used in the championship and build a working relationship with the team.
Looking ahead to 2026
Herrera’s promotion to Euroformula Open marks an important step in his development as a professional racing driver. The series will offer him the opportunity to compete against experienced rivals while continuing to refine his skills at some of Europe’s most demanding circuits.
For BVM Racing, the addition of the promising Mexican driver represents an investment in emerging talent as the team prepares to finalise its three-car line-up for the upcoming season.
