The FIA F3 Feature Race in Barcelona at the 2025 Spanish GP ended with a flurry of penalties, as the Stewards handed out multiple sanctions following a chaotic and incident-packed event. Nicola Lacorte received the most severe punishment of the weekend after exceeding the maximum number of penalty points, earning a one-round ban. Roman Bilinski and Jesse Carrasquedo also faced disciplinary action for separate breaches during the race.
Lacorte receives race ban after reaching penalty points threshold
The Stewards have handed Nicola Lacorte a one-race suspension after breaching the penalty points limit during the FIA Formula 3 Feature Race in Barcelona. The Italian picked up a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for repeatedly failing to meet the minimum delta time under safety car conditions. The incident pushed his total to fourteen (14) penalty points—two over the threshold set out in Article 39.3 of the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
Lacorte incurred the twelfth point during the Barcelona Feature Race, the Stewards issued an automatic suspension. Lacorte will therefore sit out the upcoming round at Spielberg, a significant blow to his campaign in what has already been a challenging season.
Following the release of Stewards Document 59, the suspension triggered a mandatory points reset. In line with FIA regulations, twelve (12) penalty points have now been removed from Lacorte’s record. He now holds just two (2) active penalty points.
Lacorte’s suspension is the first of the 2025 season under the twelve-point rule and serves as a stark reminder of how quickly penalty points can accumulate.
Bilinski penalised for causing collision with Garfias
The Stewards found Roman Bilinski wholly responsible for a collision with Jose Garfias during the race. They reviewed video evidence and spoke to both drivers and their team representatives before issuing a 10-second time penalty.
As Bilinski failed to finish the race, the time penalty could not be applied. In accordance with the regulations, the Stewards converted the penalty into a five-place grid drop, which he will serve at the next event he enters.
Carrasquedo penalised for restart procedure violation
Jesse Carrasquedo also faced disciplinary action for failing to follow restart procedures during the 2025 F3 Spanish GP Feature Race. The Stewards determined that the Hitech TGR driver did not start from the pit lane as required, having been out of position at Safety Car Line 1. Car 15 lined up behind Nicola Marinangeli when it should have been ahead.
The Stewards analysed video footage and positional data and consulted with Hitech TGR before issuing a 10-second stop-and-go penalty. As they imposed the sanction after the race, they converted it into a 30-second time penalty. This dropped Carrasquedo from 22nd to 25th in the final classification.
