Lance Stroll leaves Saturday at the F1 Hungarian GP very happy after qualifying in sixth place. This follows a disappointing weekend for Aston Martin last week at Spa where they were on the last row come Saturday afternoon.

The Canadian has achieved his highest qualifying place of the season at the Hungarian GP. Finishing in P6, he starts just behind his teammate, Fernando Alonso, in P5.

Throughout the entire session, Stroll showed just how good the upgrades were on the AMR25. The difference was especially clear when compared to last weekend’s performance at the Belgium GP.

Not many would have predicted this result, but Stroll was pleased with his performance nonetheless. Speaking with Sky Sports after qualifying, he said that the car has been feeling ‘really good’ all weekend.

“Yeah, it was really, really good. All week it’s been good. The car’s been in the window since the first lap of FP1. Again, now it was just really nice to drive and a good turnaround after last week.”

Right Place Right Time

The competitiveness of the Aston Martin came as a shock to Lance Stroll, who wasn’t sure how he had found so much speed in the car. When asked what has changed, he conceded that he ‘doesn’t have all the answers.’

“I don’t have all the answers. I wish I did, and we could just do it every weekend like that. But it was feeling really good in the cockpit since the first FP1 lap. We will have to try and figure it out and make that happen at more tracks and places.

“It was just feeling really good from the first lap of practice and again in qualifying. Just loads of grip and around here when the car’s feeling good, it’s a really fun place to drive and push in qualifying.”

Track Specific Success?

Aston Martin has not been able to come close to these results in 2025. Whilst they have been consistently bringing upgrades to the AMR25, Lance Stroll believes that the success they have experienced in Hungary might be due to a number of factors coming together.

“I think that the nature of the track helped today. I think it was from putting on the downforce and not too much wind out there today. I think the stars aligned for us out there this afternoon.”
