Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson qualified P14 at the F1 Singapore GP. In 2023, Lawson made headlines by becoming the rookie driver to knock Max Verstappen out in Q2 during the Singapore GP. Unfortunately, Lawson’s performance in today’s session did not live up to his expectations. The Kiwi expressed disappointment in his performance following his P3 qualifying result from Baku.

Lawson on missing Q3 at F1 Singapore GP qualifying: “Probably a consequence of missing all those laps”

When speaking in a print media session, Lawson expressed that his crashes during Free Practice cost himself and the team a chance to information about the car’s performance at this track.

Lawson’s first crash occurred during FP2, where he attacked the kerbs aggressively in Turns 16 and 17 and hit the hit. His second crash occurred during FP3. Again, he attacked the kerbs aggressively and damaged the right side of his car prior to qualifying.

“I think it was looking pretty good until the last lap. I don’t really know why we went slower on the new tyre. But obviously something that is probably a consequence of missing all those laps, obviously because of me crashing the car.

“It’s obviously something I’ve learned from. It’s hurt us this weekend, but all I can say is a massive thank you to the team for fixing the car twice. It’s obviously not good enough for me, but we’ll obviously try and make something out of it tomorrow.”

Mistakes cost Lawson chance at Q3 during F1 Singapore GP qualifying

Lawson’s lack of practice appeared to hinder his qualifying performance at the F1 Singapore GP. Lawson made a similar mistake during his final flying lap of Q2, attacking the kerbs too aggressively.

“I just grabbed the kerb and it spat me out, so it’s something that can happen around these types of tracks, but for me to do it two days in a row is pretty poor.

When asked about his chance of scoring points tomorrow, Lawson responded, “It’s going to be very hard from where we are, but the car has been fast, so let’s see.”

Lawson on cooling vests for F1 Singapore GP

Given the heat hazard for tomorrow’s race, drivers have to option to wear cooling vests in the car. When asked if he will be wearing a cooling vest for the F1 Singapore GP, Lawson said, “I haven’t been running it, no.”

“It’s something that, for me it’s just an added risk. If it fails, it’s worse. You’re going to be more hot in there, and I think we train for these races anyway. I’ve never used it in the past. We’ve never used it in the past. So for me, it’s not needed.”
