Lola Yamaha ABT returns to Mexico City for the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix, celebrating Lucas di Grassi’s 150th Formula E race and looking to build on Zane Maloney’s first FE point in São Paulo.
Formula E will celebrate its 150th race at one of the fastest and most challenging tracks on the calendar. The 2.608km Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez features 16 turns, long straights, and a technical infield through the iconic Foro Sol stadium, where ATTACK MODE is located. Saturday, January 10th, promises an exciting race at one of Formula E’s toughest circuits.
A milestone weekend for di Grassi
Lucas di Grassi‘s Season 12 started out with a retirement at the São Paulo E-Prix following a collision with Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara. However, Mexico City offers a fresh start and a special milestone as he celebrates his 150th FE race at a track where only he and Pascal Wehrlein have won more than once.
“It’s great to be back for my tenth Mexico City E-Prix, where I’ve had a lot of success in the past,” he shared, looking back at his 2016 and 2018 victories. “The atmosphere created by the fans is truly incredible and I hope it can be a great boost for myself and the team following a challenging race weekend in São Paulo.”
“This weekend also marks my 150th race entry in Formula E which is a very special milestone for both myself and the series,” he said, having entered every round of the Formula E Championship to date. “I’m so proud to have been a part of this revolutionary electric racing series from the very beginning, especially when you look at how far the Championship, and the technology within it, has come during this time.”
Maloney eyes more points
After a tough Season 11 debut, Zane Maloney finally scored his first Formula E point, finishing P10 in the chaotic São Paulo E-Prix. Maloney originally crossed the line in P11; however, a post-race penalty for Felipe Drugovich promoted him into the points.
Heading into Round 2, Maloney shared, “Mexico City always has a fantastic atmosphere, particularly when you drive through the Foro Sol. We performed well in qualifying here last year, starting in ninth, and we know we have better pace going into this season so we can hopefully translate that into positive results in the race.”
“Having scored my first point for Lola Yamaha ABT in São Paulo, I’m keen to keep building on that momentum and hopefully add more points to our tally.”
Chasing performance in Mexico City
Lola Yamaha ABT’s Team Principal Mark Preston further highlighted the significance of the Season 12 Mexico City E-Prix.
“Racing in Mexico City is always a great way to kick off the year and with this being the 150th race of the series it’s sure to feel even more special, particularly for me on a personal level, having been involved in the first ever race back in 2014,” he said, having served as Amlin Aguri’s Team Principal in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship season.
“The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a challenging and fast track but the team has put in a lot of work since São Paulo so we can hopefully iron out the issues we had there, build on the positives and maximise our performance.”
