For the 2025 Formula 3 season, Campos Racing‘s Mari Boya chose to alternate between two helmets.
The first involves his standard design with the green color scheme, while the other features a pink layout. This 2025, Bell manufactured both helmets, a trusted manufacturer in the motorsport industry.
For the creative aspect, Boya partnered with Jota Designs, the Spaniard’s go-to designer. “I always do my design with Jota Designs, who is a guy from Madrid. He has been working with me for the past two or three years, and for this year I wanted to try a different thing because I always use the same colours.”
A different splash of color for Boya and his 2025 helmet
Opting for something special this year, Boya chose to upgrade from his usual green palette with a vibrant, pink design.
“That is green, the Spanish flag and more or less the design is similar with maybe gold colours as well, but I really wanted to do a special or different helmet this year using pink,” the Spaniard stated. “I think it looks really nice. It’s a colour that I also like a lot, so for this year I have two designs that are the same, but using pink instead of green, and I think it looks really nice.”
One notable aspect of the design is the inclusion of childhood photos with his mother. Asked on its effect toward the overall layout, Boya believes it makes the entire helmet extra special.
“As always, I love to have pictures with my mum from when I was younger, it’s really special and for sure I really like this helmet, and I am really pleased to wear it.”
Ever since karting years, the Spaniard often had such photos on his helmet. Up to this day, Boya has kept this tradition alive.
Boya added: “This is one thing I started doing in 2018, so it’s been quite a while, it’s something I will keep always.”
“More or less the same” — Boya on changing helmet designs
Boya has been consistent in helmet designs throughout his single-seater career. What was once negative space in his karting helmet, became the spot for his childhood photos. “To be honest, the design doesn’t change always, it’s more or less the same. Since I was in karting, I’ve used these spaces, when I was young it was just black, now I use them to put the pictures that I think suit it really nicely.“
“To be honest, the design, I like to be quite aggressive at the top,” Boya comments on the top view of the helmet. “Using the Spanish flag here on all the designs that I really like and yeah, I really like it.”
The Spaniard was unable to showcase a special helmet the season prior. If asked to make one however, Boya has planned to make it fully pink—similar to his alternate helmet this 2025.
“If I were asked to do a special helmet last year, I would have said I am doing all-pink but now I have pink.”
“I would like to add more pink at the front, because as a driver, the part you see the most is the front and it’s quite wide, so you cannot really see that it is pink. So maybe I would add a bit more pink at the front but to be honest, I really like it this.”
Maximizing creative freedom through helmet designs
Asked if the helmet designs will end up changing in the near future, Boya was quick to stay consistent. “The design for sure will not change too much, maybe each year I add a little difference.”
“But if I show you the two helmets from this year and the previous years that are green, you would not see the difference. Maybe I will because I know what I changed, but you would not.”
From the get-go, Boya has his eyes set on keeping his typical, tried-and-tested design. However, he also lets Jota Designs’ creativity run wild from time-to-time.
“At the start of the season, I say to Jota do the same as last year, try to implement some things, and I will tell you if I like them. Then I will ask for this one to have some pink, and he shows me a few different styles and I say, ‘That’s the one I like the most’ and I got it.”
