In a thrilling papaya-controlled 2025 Formula 1 season, McLaren secured their 10th Constructors’ Championship at the Singapore Grand Prix. This victory not only marks their second consecutive title but also their first back-to-back championship since 1991 with Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger.

The team has had a remarkable resurgence to the top, guided by CEO Zac Brown and team Principal Andrea Stella. McLaren secured the 2024 Constructors’ Championship for the first time since 1998 at the final race in Abu Dhabi. Thanks to a victory by Lando Norris, the team beat Scuderia Ferrari by 14 points to take the title.

A season of dominance

McLaren’s success has been built on exceptional performances from their drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who have secured victories in 12 of 18 races so far. Piastri delivered McLaren’s first victory hat trick in over 25 years at the Miami Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Norris achieved two childhood dreams by winning on the streets of Monaco and at home in Silverstone.

Another major milestone was marked at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as McLaren achieved their 200th F1 win, becoming only the second team after Ferrari to reach that number. Alongside seven 1-2 finished, highlighting their teamwork throughout the season.

McLaren’s success stems from the engineers and mechanics who designed and built the MCL39. The car has delivered a steady aerodynamic platform and crucial tyre management, contributing to their consistency and pace. As well as to their current fastest pit stop of the season of 1.91 seconds for Piastri in Monza.

The Singapore Grand Prix

As George Russell secured victory in Singapore and Norris completed the podium, the race wasn’t without tension for McLaren. On the opening lap, a minor clash between Norris and Piastri tested the drivers’ focus and the team’s communication. Yet, both drivers continued to push forward, ultimately finishing third and fourth, which secured the championship points.

Focus shifts to Drivers’ Championship

With the Constructors’ title secured, McLaren now focuses on the Drivers’ Championship, where Norris and Piastri are battling each other. With six races remaining, Piastri leads the championship with 336 points, followed by Norris with 314. Max Verstappen is also closing down on the duo after outscoring the McLaren drivers in the past three races.

McLaren now faces the challenge of supporting both drivers while striving to claim their first Drivers’ Championship since 2008 with Lewis Hamilton.
