McLaren’s Lando Norris drove a steady race to finish 4th at the 2026 F1 Singapore GP. Reflecting on his race, the 2025 World Champion said: “I think the result was as good as we could achieve today.”
After starting 5th, Norris diced with teammate Oscar Piastri at the start—though nowhere near as closely as during the Sprint. Afterwards he remained in fifth, and stayed out longer than the others ahead taking their first stops as they gambled on a Safety Car.
Still, after his stop on Lap 32, he remained in 5th, with a significant gap to the Ferraris and Antonelli in front at that point.
Norris and Hamilton mix it up, Antonelli takes advantage
After championship leader Kimi Antonelli’s final stop during the VSC period on lap 40, Norris was in P4, catching the seven-time World Champion but having the Italian come at him on softs.
This culminated in a tangle at Turn 1 on Lap 54. Hamilton drove into the runoff as he braked too late trying to fend off car #1, with Norris also going deep. The Mercedes man would pass both Brits in separate moves soon after.
“I think I could have achieved it in a better way and at least put up a good fight with Kimi. Both me and Lewis obviously wanted to see who would break later into one. He didn’t even brake into one. This kind of meant I was also going off.
“I could have put up a better fight with Kimi in that case and could have fought for a podium. I could have done a better job in trying to achieve the result we had today but I think he would have passed me no matter what.”
Norris ready to help teammate Piastri after Saturday calamity
The battle helped Piastri catch up after his own late pit stop on Lap 42 because of a slow puncture. Norris was fully prepared to slow down and back the Ferrari driver up, though Hamilton’s fading tyre situation allowed the second McLaren to easily catch and take 5th.
“Oscar was unfortunate with a puncture. I saw there were quite a few cars. I also had a few problems with the car myself so there was more of an opportunity to get more points and get Oscar back up the order than there was for me to catch Kimi because I couldn’t. I saw there were three or four cars in between so I asked but I didn’t need to in the end. We still got the best points we could as a team.”
